Boston on a J1

Well, as of about 10 minutes ago I'm considering going to Boston on a J1. Problem is I'd be getting a loan to go over so I'd really have to have some sort of job lined up if I want to go.

Can anyone recommend a place to look for a job? Any places that will hire you before you head over. I don't mind working a crap job if it will keep me there. Friends of mine worked gardening in Montreal last summer and it paid grand but I hear it's different in the states. Gardening jobs pay crap. Are there any other jobs like that around Boston?

    Any help would be great!

Hi, I was in Boston on a J1 last summer, and it's a great place to spend the summer. I would reccomend trying to stay in the frat houses around MIT, memorial drive if you can. There's good craic around and plenty to do. If you're looking for a job before you head out it can be difficult because you can't meet employees.
If you're a guy moving companies are a good idea, I can give you a few contacts if you PM me, between people we met and my own mates there was Irish J1 students working in every moving company. I also remember the aquarium as a place a lot of J1's got jobs in, selling tickets for trolley tours and doing charity collections on the street were the other jobs people had.
To be honest it's very difficult to get a job before you get there, but not too difficult once you're there to pick something up.
Best of luck and I hope you have a deadly summer in a deadly city.

Also check out www.craigslist.org for jobs accomodation and so on. For frat houses find the MIT webpage and their linked on that.
