I've heard of it happening to a few people but usually when they are looking at a mirror (scrying) with the aim of seeing something.

Why did you stare in it for so long?

Ive tried scrying. Its interesting but I never got much from it.

If its at night when your tired its hard to judge the results. Its easier to get scared and for your imagination to go off on one late at night. Plus, if you stare at anything long enough your eyes go a bit odd. You might also get the image remaining on your retina for a bit (is there a term for that?) which can cause you to see shadows.

As a kid I was told if you looked in the mirror at the stroke of midnight youd see the devil lookin back at you. Well, now if i try it all I see is bad hair.:p

There is the school of tought that if you do that you start to see reflections of your soul and the different faces it has worn in different life times.

I love looking in mirrors ... but sure of course i would.

Anyway I cant help but think of Heroes when I read this thread.

    I do love heroes.....

In the last year or so I've started to see faces of spirits on other peoples faces so presume it's something similar if I pay too much attention to my own reflection.
I used to think the same Thaed about maybe my soul image is very different to my own. Often I would look in the mirror and not recognise my own face until I snapped out of it.

Thats mad. I remember vividly staring at my reflection for ages a few years ago and my face got distorted or my eyes relaxed after a while and then I realised it didnt look like me at all in the mirror. Just like in a cartoon, as soon as I realised, it moved back into my usual image.

At times of stress/anxiety if look in the mirror i see a very distressing image of myself. Pale, sickly looking and very stressed/tormented looking, almost like that crying lady painting (or is it screaming lady)?

It describes exactly how i am feeling inside at the time, ioften wonder is that what i am looking at.

I've had a bit of a 'fear' of mirrors from a young age, it cant really be called a 'fear' even, its not dat bad more of a hesitation. I have memories of seeing a hooded figure in the mirror at the end of my parents room one night when i woke up, i looked away and went back to sleep. Never forgotten it!
I dont like mirrors in any room i sleep in since then!

I guess the posters over in Thumped.com have little else to be doing.

I've seen stuff like that in my house but only when I'm sleepy, I've always figured it was my eyes playing tricks...but sure... ye never know...

Try not let reading this stuff start to freak you out more, it can snowball on you.

the fact that it was late at night and was tired seems to lead me to the obvious answer, when your sleepy your eyes dont focus as quickly and as sharply and also when its darker your eyes do not get enough light in to focus everything,so the fact that u where looking at the mirror for a long time probably distorted the background because ur eyes werent focusing between the background and u which probably created the shadow u saw

Mirror scrying can be very informative if done in the right setting, ive done it many times....not only will you get your own past lives but you can also channel in other spirits, I have studied,in a group,a person sitting on a chair who takes on the face of a spirit, the spirit face comes in and then we get messages which coincide with each other and all relate back to the face. When doing it for yourself you should just let the images come and go,dont anylise, you get past lives, male and female, some can even come through as clowns ect,ive seen myself with beards, fat, skinny,mAN,womAN,its good if you can sit and take it in.

When I was very little, I used to see a girl in my parents' bedroom mirror. She was older than me, and I don't remember much about meeting her except that she stopped coming one day and I missed her. I was really young then, about five. She wasn't harmful, but as I got older I became afraid of mirrors, especially at night. I was afraid that someone was watching me from the mirror, and I ended up asking that the large mirror in my room be removed when I was 9 or 10. Even today, I'm not comfortable sleeping in a room with a mirror placed where I can wake up and accidentally look into it.
I'm still entranced by my parents' bedroom mirror, interestingly enough. I don't stare in long enough to distort my own image, but whenever I'm over, I always find a reason to go in and look into it.
Anyway, the mirror thing is kind of weird, and it's the only personal experience with the paranormal I've had, aside from visits to mediums. I don't know why it happened or who the girl was (our house was brand new at the time - we were the first family to live there. There no deaths, no accidents, nothing to account for a haunting), but a medium suggested that it might have been a spirit guide.

The whole fear of mirror thing seems more common than i once thought, interesting. simliarly i didnt like mirrors in my room when i was young but i grew out of it. I can now look in the mirror longer than before but i dont do it to challenge myself so im not lookin to find something else which is probably why i stopped being afraid. I do however still avoid lookin in a mirror in a dark room!

From what i remember there is an old ritual where you can view evil spirits/demons by using a "black" mirror (sorry i cant remember the proper name for it). I wouldnt try it out myself but some of the more knoweagable on this forum mite know more about it?
