What does she shoot? And more importantly what's your budget?

    what budget?

I can spend like up around 200 euros maybe a bit more like

I know its personal but I really dont like giving vouchers - Cause I
always think its a really cold gift especially for a 21st

Id be lying if I said I knew the sort of stuff she shoots- I live in england so dont get to see her work often- but as far as I know she does like all sort while shes still in uni- she only really got into photography last year- so imagine shes still experimenting

50mm 1.8 lens & a battery grip, if you put it up to 250ish and buy online?

ah right- cool- yea was looking at them- but being pretty clueless abotu this stuff I hadnt a clue if they be good or not- but you rekon that would be a good present like?

I was gonna say the 50mm too. You could buy it and ask what the exchange policy is? Most places have a 14/28 day return policy, especially if you say its a gift. That way it'd be a lens shaped gift voucher :) I don't like giving the paper ones either. Just make sure on the policy.

    Well, they're both handy like.

What is she specialising in in Fine Art do you know?

The main advantages to a battery grip are longer battery time if you have 2 batteries in it, better handling, and portrait button functions.

The 50mm lens is great for low light work, and is a pretty handy lens to have...

I think shes specialising in photography- its pretty much aall she seems to do - shes in UU in Belfast I really dont know much about the course.

I should probably take more of an interest in her work but Im a bit obsessed by my own (architecture)

Ill probably go for them then- like I suppose the worst she can do is exchange them- the sentiment is still there-
    thanks for the help people

you could also buy her a secondhand film SLR; problem with that is you'd really need to know if she wants one.

there's so soo much stuff you could get!!
    :)
i've been looking at remote timer switches for my camera.
the one for the 350D is nicely priced so maybe a CF card to go with it would make a nice pressie
I see expansis have some great deals in CF cards at the moment!
other than that perhaps a set of macro tubes would be within your budget

    :)
