    Hey

i have Call Of Duty 3 on the PS3 and having awful probs with the multiplayer option.

i can get online, can connect to PlaystationNetwork, and can even HOST a multiplayer game.........but whenever i try to join another game i get "could not connect to all players", "Could not connect to host" or "no session available"

ive a netgear router on NTL............couldnt get online at all until i opened the relevant ports and changed my encryption from WPA to WEP, and have upgraded the firmware on both the router and the PS3.........but now this is really starting to annoy me.

anyone else come across this? or have any clue what i could do?

    all help appreciated lads

yeah i have the same problem , although in my experience if you can't do "instant action" nothing will work and when it does work you just have to keep trying

A friend of mine had the same problem, he contacted NTL tech support. They opened the ports for him and it worked fine... Worth giving the guy's a call

    well, got it sorted

already had the ports and UAT's open, was a problem with the firmware of the router after all..............i was stuck on NAT type 3 and after the update it instantly changed to Type 2

so, anyone else with this problem, update your firmware, will save a lot of hassle lol

oh, and ye might still get the error messages connecting to SOME games, but its not a problem on your end, its a problem woth one of the other players

Lads this was a common problem on Xbox live as well.

Basically on Live it was people who had their NAT setting at either STRICT or MODERATE. (NAT TYPE 3 on PSN)

Ideally a NAT should be OPEN (NAT TYPE 2 on PSN)

With the PS3 Network Test it's harder to get a diagnosis, but as they symptoms are the same (if it looks and sounds like a duck then it probably is) I'd say your on networks with Strict or Moderate NAT's.

    IP ADDRESS:-

If you have a Public IP address. A generic DHCP address provided by your ISP, this is most likely the first instance of whats going wrong. A public IP address is shared by hundred of people and it makes it very hard for a game to allocate your slot in the game becuase that is done via IP address.

The problem is worse if two people with the same public IP address try to play a game, often they will boot each other out of a game, or simply just end up being unable to join, bar the odd match here and there.

Time outs and being booted during a game is also common.

    In order to solve this..

You should ask your ISP provider for a STATIC IP address. In most cases this will automatically make your NAT open.

As a static IP address is yours alone, there is no problems allocationg you a position on a game and it doesnt clash with anyone else, so you wont get booted.

    OTHER REMEDIES :-

Other than that you have to forward port settings to your router, this is more of a pain, and requires you to get all the settings from your ISP and the operation will be different depending on the router you are using.

Check your router and modem have all the latest firmware updates also.

However - First stop for anyone with connection problems should be to make sure they have a STATIC IP address, becuase by getting that sorted first it saves you f'ing around with your router etc.

    Enjoy.....

ye DONT need a static IP from your ISP............you just need to designate a specific IP address from your router to the PS3

i had the same trouble with the xbox 360 version and thats why i won't touch the PS3 version with a barge pole.

i have my 360 set up so i always have an open nat and the first thing i always do before i play on xbox live is run a connection test and make sure the nat is open and i still had nothing but trouble with COD3 multiplayer .

i even direct connected to my cable modem to by-pass the router and still had the same trouble so i just got rid of the game as it was to much trouble trying to play it online.

now all my other games work online on the 360 and the PS3 without getting a static ip from my isp so i just blame tryarch

    ok, no probs

go into your router and update the firmware if its not already updated

then open the relevant ports and UAT's, this info is on the playstation network whock yo can view on the PS3 or online................to learn how to do that refer to your router manual, its pretty straight forward once you find where to put it

once you do this, do a connection test on the PS3 and your NAT will change from Type 3 to Type 2

you will still get the "cannot connect to all players" message on some games, but thats a problem on their end, not yours
