    HI guys,

moving into a new house and i want to be able to get Sky+ with HD for the living room. but i also want to get multiroom for the dining room and 2 bedrooms.

what is the best set up to get equipment wise?

I am under the impression that a quad LNB wont work here. is there any alternative to a multi LNB?

I have a smarthomes technology panel in the house and was wondering if there was something like a switch i could get that could then be patched to each individual room?

    all help/advice appreciated.

I have heard from some good people here that a quad LNB is the MAX that Sky will sell you. Their system won't let someone purchase anymore than that on the one account. Now, I heard that 6 to 12 months ago. Maybe things have changed.

If true, you can have the following max combinations :

    4 Digiboxes
    or
    1 Sky+ / HD and 2 digiboxes
    or
    2 Sky+ / HD

Shame you can't have 4 Sky+ / HD boxes fully working. Not that I'd pay rental on such a thing anyway.

The max is 8 outputs now (Octo LNB) as far as I am aware. Don't know if Sky supply Octo LNBs but they can be purchased easily on EBAY at a reasonable price.

    Hi Washout,
As previously posted u can get an Octo Lnb, but from experience especially using a 60cm these can give numberous signal problems. A more expensive but far more reliable solution to ur problem with be to install what is known as a Quattro Lnb..

A Quattro 4 output lnb, will provide 1 satellite signal to be split into the 4 sky wavebands individually ie.

    1 X High Band Vertical
    1 x High Band Horizontal
    1 X Low Band Vertical
    1 X Low Band Vertical

By running for cables into a multiswitch the signals are recombined, and so u can run the cables for the amount of boxes u require. I often install these in blocks of flats and multiswitches go upto 47 outputs so u can run as many boxes as u want from this system and it is relatively easy to install. You usually can also install a terrestrial aerial thought the system which will provide you with the rtes etc a handy backup.

An 8 way unit I have used quite a lot is a "Triax Brand 5MS 5X8 P" but there are loads of other units out there...best part is it will screw onto a coms cab or can be cabletied in there quite easy so should work great with ur smarthome unit..]

    Hope that helps,
    Regards,
    Steve

The multiswitch would be the way to go, but I don't think Sky multiroom is since it's €15 per room per month...

Maybe multiswitch with 1 multiroom (dining room) and then FTA boxes in the bedrooms...

oh ok...i thought for some reason it was a fiver per room per month... thanks for the advice guys.

a better option might be to go sky multiroom for just one extra room and then use magnet as a provder for the two other rooms as i plan on going with them for broadband and phoneservice anyway and have fibre optics coming into the home.

My main problem is that the house will be occupied by an indian family so wanted the indian channels provided by sky.

Also Im thinking that it might even be better to have two boxes (living room, dining room) and then wireless digisender from both those to two bedrooms. (better (cheaper) option??)

Sky+ or SkyHD needs two cables each all the way from the Multiswitch. I'm using an EMP Centurai and any multiswitch can be expanded by amps and splitters on the Quattros up to about 1000 outlets.

The EMP unit has 4 sets of Quattro input, for four satellites. The Receiver "sees" a 4 way Diseqc. 28.2 (Sky) is on the 1st set of 4 inputs so the Sky boxes that don't do Diseqc always see only the Sky Package.

A FTA Satellite receiver is cheaper than a good videosender.

See what Indian stuff is on 13E, 19E at www.lyngsat.com

    If you want 25.5E, 16E, 7E, 5E or 1W or 5W rather 23.5E, then you need either two dishes or a Wavefrontier T90. A single 90cm dish can just about do 13, 19, 23.5 & 28.2E

Put in a Bi-Directional Amp into your system and put magic eyes in the rooms u wish to connect i.e. sitting room and bedroom mite be a easier and cheaper option in the long run
