The comment on rice and Bud is priceless!!! :D

Nice one. At last, somebody has finally put in writing what I have been saying for years.

No surprises as to the comments on the USA Bub, but what did interest me was the reference to "Goose Island IPA" as possibly the best beer in the world; anyone tried it, and if so where might it be obtained?
    Cheers

I'm pretty sure they have this in Redmonds of Ranelagh, its not on their site but then neither is Green King. I haven't tried Goose island and I'm sure the reason is price, I'll give it a go if its the best beer in the world though. Green King is very tasty and refreshing if you're into IPAs and reasonably priced, must be since I've had it

Goose Island is very good. Best in the world though? That's a big statement.

How about: one of the best American IPAs?

There are so many IPAs to chose from over here - it's probably the genre the US does best right now.

Does Sweetwater export to Europe yet? Another gem of a 'micro' brewery.

Agree: Green King IPA is one of my favourite beers, and I keep a small stock most times. Interestingly, I had it on draught in London - in a good ale pub - recently for the first time, and to my great surprise I found that I prefered the bottled version!
I'll get hold of the Goose Island and give it a try.

    Cheers.

I would never call any beer the best beer in the world as it's so subjective. Goose Island IPA is a very nice beer - if you like hops you'll love it. Don't confuse it with Honkers Ale from the same brewery which you might also see on the shelves (this is more in the style of a Bitter).

Personally I'm not a fan of Greene King IPA but there you go.

Oh, soooo many beers have won "beer in the world", sure aren't there beer word cups held nearly every year and stuff? It's a very bold statement to make really. Maybe he just didn't want to get sued by Carlsberg for saying "probably..."

it mentions that the chinese like their beer with rice flavour but later mentions that rice has no flavour. wtf

Could you quote the piece where it states that the chinese like their beer with rice flavour?
Because all I can see is: "global brewers concentrate on pale lagers with little bitterness and with rice added as a cheap adjunct to barley malt. "

Had a bottle of the Goose Island IPA in the Porter House last night. I'm glad I did, as it saved me €78 buying a case of the stuff from RealBeers.ie! I thought it a very good beer, but boy was it sweet, and so not really to my taste.

As others point out, it's much a matter of personal taste; Protz should have perhaps said its was possibly his favourite beer rather than best (as I would for Red Biddy - not perhaps the best but quite a personal favourite).

    Anyway, cheers for the responses.

Little Creatures from Fremantle in Western Australia is another fine Pale Ale that has to be tried.
    Readily available in most Oddbins.
