my tv

    just a quick one ....

last night the tv in our bedroom switched itself on. must have been around 3am as afterwards (when i couldnt sleep) i checked the time and it was 3.30am

anyway, i woke the wife, asked her where the remote was, she found it somewhere round the side of the bed and i switched off the tv. i put the remote in the ground beside my side of the bed, said 'jesus that was weird' and then the telly switched itself on again. i switched it off again.

my pwn theory is that the TV could be dodgy. it hasnt done this before but that doesnt mean it didnt decide to go faulty last night. I'll have to see if it does it again.

Today I put the remote under the pillow and tried to switch on the TV both my pressing it through the pillows and then by putting my hand under the pillow, onto the on/off switch of the remote itself and it still wouldnt turn on. it only worked when i took the remote out from under the pillows and had it in clear line of sight of the tv. i then tried to switch it on by putting the remote on the floor (like i did last night) and even dropping it on the floor. I spent 20 mins trying various ways to mess with the remote and accidentally turn on the TV and again, i had no luck.

a radio has in the past done the same thing - though to date only once .. and it didnt switch itself on again after I turned it off.

outside of a faulty TV (which obviously I cant say is the cause yet), any ideas?

christ mate, be careful, you should never ever leave anything in standby, espicially something in your bedroom, if it had a faulty circut that started smouldering during the night, you would be dead before it makes enough noise to wake you, fit a smoke alarm to your bedroom celing if have an alarmclock radio

maybe it happend so that you would post here, and i would reply, saving your life!

Actually not bad advice at all ... practical advice first as it should be.

Now obviously I know someone is going to say about 3am (and there about) being a significant time for the whole anti-christ thing but I would go jumping for a paranormal explaination unless more stuff happens. Personally i would be on the lookout for non-electrical happenings such as items being moved, unexplained smell etc.

never had smells - more auditory stuff than anything else. my alarm clock (dont worry, its battery operated ;-) ) once did kinda move - well it wasnt there when I went to bed as I couldnt find it, but it was flush up against the bottom of the door (and in my direct line of sight) when I woke up the next morning

Try the socket thing and let us know how it goes.

if that tv switches on without being plugged in it'll be going out the window .... quickly followed by the sound of my car taking off at high speed

Just check the backseat before you drive off.
