    Ok,

Not quite a classic, but not new either

    1990 1.3 Golf CL

pretty straight all round, bumpers a bit wonky, needs an indicator or 2.

I've an urge to mod it a bit. nothing too chav, power steering, vento 14 inch steels, gti suspension and brakes, gti interior and maybe some smoked lights too.

would be kinda sweet i reckon.

Nice, i like these. How about some schmidt or ATS wheels though? Not boy racer at all, old skool german style.... small diameters but wide and deep dish

budget, and i'm aiming for low profile looks, not mad into the german 8 inch wheel 6 inch tyres look :)

Ah right cool. Was just thinkin that it would end up lookin kind of like that with the wider steels off the vento anyway.
G60/Rallye kit instead of GTi stuff? Would be hard core, and different too as loads of standard golfs get gti kit on them, either way it still be nice though

    no kit.

the current exterior plan would be.
    jetta lights, maybe debadged grille
    stock bumper, smoked/clear indicators
    vento steels painted black
gti suspension for a small drop, not looking to drag it along
replace cl wing badges with smoked/clear repeaters
possibly chinese spec door handles, look smoother, plain black also
    maybe gti rear spoiler
    rear vw badge sprayed black
possible eventual light window tint, just smoked a little bit, not blacked out.

i think that covers my dreams/ideas for now.

more importantly is figuring out how the hell i can insure it for a reasonable amount.

Sounds quite good. What engine is in it? Shouldnt be too difficult to insure, i assume it 1.3/1.4 engine. It also not a sporting model and it wouldnt be considered a high value car (not sayin that it's not good, it just wouldnt have a high market value, making it less of a risk for them.)

it's only a 1.3 i haven't done much about insuring it yet, drove it home on a temporary transfer. problem is it's gonna be a second car so the insurance are gonna want to start from scratch with a second NCB, here's hoping fbd will be nice to me, maybe they'll let me use one year of my current ncb on the golf cos i've got five years there but they only give a discount up to four years on commercials.

maybe it'll be cheaper to swap the policies round, i dunno.

my daily driver is a 92 range rover

Wohoo, just rang fbd. €550 open driving third party only. sweet.
they're not particularly mod friendly but they're definitely the most flexible insurance company i've ever dealt with so i'm sure they can be talked around to a few mild styling mods.
