Just so I'm not freaking out on Monday, where would be a good (and possibly cheap) spot to go to get a project/thesis bound? I'd be giving them little or no notice, of course, and I'm looking for 3 or 4 copies of it.

Reads of Nassau St will spiral-bind <100 pages for €3.60 if I recall correctly.

Thermal binding is slightly more expensive.

Edit: and it takes about thirty seconds.

I think theres a place on campus that do proper (ie hard cover) binding..

Have seen signs for this in the bottom floor of Aras An Phiarsigh.

Reads is where I go to get all my projects bound, very cheap and efficient service, you won't be there for more than 10 minutes if it's just ring binding.

Will ring binding suffice or do you need something more fancy?

colour printing? I've about 15 pages of colour (some just tables and graphs) but others colour pictures of animals. Has to be printed out 3 times. This is €22.50 or there abouts in college printing...

By college printing, do you mean the printers in the computer rooms or somewhere else?

For our FYP we're expected to use better quality paper which makes it expensive to get printed.

yes the printers in the computer rooms (laser huts for example)

Check with your department guidelines whether it has to be hard or soft bound. For my undergrad it had to be soft bound, for my masters it had to be hard bound.

If it's soft just go to Reads and it's cheap and quick, you can just walk in and do it.

If it has to be hard bound you'll have to go to the Thesis Centre on Camden Street. The quickest turn around you can get there is a few hours. The quicker you want it the more expensive - I had them do 24 hours binding for me and it was about 25 or 30 euro for each one bound. Make sure you give yourself a day if it has to be hard bound.

Ask your department, physiology does all its soft cover binding in house.

Yep. If you want it done right then this is the place to go.

Yeah, didn't factor that in. I've 54 pages completed so far, with every page having at least one colour image (satellite, or pictures of cracks, or of the building itself).

Reads would be the cheapest place for colour printing I assume?

    College is cheaper

Reads have really lost their budget edge since being bought.

Man, reads are 6.50 for handling charge, than 65c per colour page (0.06c) for black and white. As I said I'll have about 60 pages per thesis to print (need at least 3 copies). College are 50c per colour page (how much for b/w? 5c?)

Is there anyway in college to print colour but charge it to kopikat cards? In the hamilton library you can print b/w using your kopikat card. (I happen to have a couple of cards).

this could end up being very expensive.

Do you know any staff members/postgrads who would have a handy printer?

No, put to be honest, I wouldn't be happy printing off 120 pages on someones personal printer. I might just print this out at home on a inkjet printer :0 (the colour ones anyway). (36 hours til deadline)

Less than 12 hours to go :(:(:(:(

I might print the basic graphs at home, the photographs in college and bring them over to reads to get photocopied. save the handling charge.

Best of luck with it Kev.

Done. Fairly happy with it but was very rushed. Wrote the abstract at 2pm.

Printed the graphs on someone's inkjet and the pages with photos on the collage printers. Cost about 30 altogether. Got them bound by the department.

Here it is in pdf format :_

Just back from Reads - took around half an hour waiting to get it bound. Not too bad. There are two lines there: one for thermal binding, one for ring binding.

They have different rates ranging on how many pages you need bound, so my two cost €6.40 or something around that.

Wow, that was a long wait, guess they're pretty busy today!!

    Congrats on the binding!! :D

It was lunchtime, I suppose. Still, I doubt it'll get any better for the rest of the day.
