Australia Visa - 3 Year Ban

    Hi Guys

    Hoping somebody can advise me!

I am due to head of to Sydney at the end of April and have been thinking of getting a 3 Month Holiday Visa as opposed to a 6 Month Tourist Visa.

I will be staying for 4 Months - Till the end of August.

I have been told that if I even stay a day over the 3 Months that I will automatically be banned for 3 Years from entering Australia.

I was wondering how true this is. I will be able to provide for myself the 4 Months and will not be working.

The reason I don't wanna go for the 6 Month Visa is because it takes 2 weeks to process and costs €150 and you need a few Documents such as Bank Statements etc. The 3 Month is pretty instant and is Free more or less.

How would I go about after 3 Months if I headed to New Zealand and then Came back -

How would I apply for another 3 Month Visa out there and will it be definitely granted? I have heard that you can get 4 consecutive ones pretty easy?

How much would a trip to New Zealand be and would it be worth it financially?

Also will the airline change my flight date over there if I have a 3 month visa and want to come home end of August (Month 4). Do they look at your Visa or do they bother?

    Thanks All

AFAIK, in most countries it's usually possible to get a visa extension while you're over there. Maybe look into that.

Breadmonkey is correct. Once there you can apply for an extension to your tourist visa.

I was under the impression if you wanted an extension you would have to leave the country and then come back - that's why I was thinking of going to New Zealand for a day or two and flying back

So you're going to NZ just so you can save €150 on the 6 month visa? How much do you think the flight over to NZ is - free? Give me a break!

    Just get the right visa.

Ermmm I'm going in about 3 weeks so don't have time to wait for a bank statement and then wait 2 weeks for the application etc and I don't have the €4000 in my account right now!

If it was quicker to process and I knew I was guarenteed it and had the money in the bank then I would definitely pay the €150 :)

If you go to NZ and comeback to Australia, you may be refused entry as they will come to the conclusion that you are working illegally. Your best bet is to apply for an extenstion before your 3 months are up. Take a responsible Australian citizen with you to the DIMA office to vouch for you.

So I am right in thinking I can just apply for an extension while I'm there??

    Are these granted freely?

I know I'm asking stupid Questions but I know nothing about this

I got a return Auckland-Perth flight over christmas. Flights cost almost NZ$800 (E400).
Not too expensive but easier to get the propper visa.

Bring a responsible Aus citizen with you to the local DIMA office. So long as the Aussie citizen is of good repute (not a crim) there will be no problem getting an extension. The Aus citizen will have to say that they will support you if necessary.
