Sim-free Sony Ericsson W900i, text-only Vodafone Live

I bought a sim-free Sony Ericsson W900i and have been trying to use Vodafone Live via 3G. I got the settings sent to the phone through the SE site, and it does connect to Vodafone Live, but the front page all displays in text only.

I checked with Vodafone customer care, and they just said that the phone was not supported. Anyone else have the same issue with this or a similar phone?

    Cheers! :D

Pretty standard as Vodafone Live is software dependant for the most part which means it has to be Vodafone branded. Sucks, but that's life. Console yourself with the fact your phone isn't butchered with crappy branded firmware :)

It's not dependent on Vodafone firmware, but on the model of the phone.

Each phone sends its model info to the Vodafone Live site via the browser, and Vodafone only show the complete Live web site for their list of "approved" phones, when in reality virtually any phone would work.

What makes it worse is that you often find these phones are available on Vodafone UK.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll give customer care a call again to see what they say about the phone and why it's not approved for Ireland while it is okay for the UK.

I guess this is the "downside" of buying a non-branded phone, in that you cannot access the network's 3G content. From what I read on this forum, 3Ireland don't even let you use non-branded phones.

    Cheers!
