activating premium channels

    Hello,
    I have recently got a sky dish and box installed in my new house. i subscribed to sky world........sky told me that they cant activate the sports and movies until i get a phome line hooked up to the box. they told me i have 6 weeks to do this before they start billing me.

    problem is that eircom estimate it will be at least another 3-4 weeks before i will have a line activated. this is very sketchy and i dont really believe eircom.....

    can i ring sky and get them to switch the sports and movies on and then activate my card in my parents sky box ( they have phone line installed).

    is this the only way around this?

    any help would be greatly appreciated

    connect your box to the parents line until it is activated. Sky really are being a pain in the hole over this phone line thing

    That's odd. Normally, they should say you'll have to pay the No Phone Line fee of €37.50.

    Plug your box into the parent's system (with phoneline), and do the Installer Callback.

    To do this press Services, 4, 0, 1, Select. This should bring you to the Installer Menu, where you'll choose the bottom option "New Installation". Press Select each time when prompted, and it'll go eventually to "Callback in progress" and if successful, shoudl say "Installation Complete" if the callback was successful.

    Thanks guys for the replies..............

    Would it not be enough just to put my card into my parents box and do the installer thing with it then once the card is in, or does it have to be my box also.....

    Should I ring SKy and ask them to switch on the sports and movies, wont they then ask me for a phone number? could i just gove them a mobile number or something? would they fall for this over in scotland??

    dont think so, as far as i know your card is paired directly with your digibox for premium channels.

    No it has to be your box, Byte would not have put you to that trouble unless it was necessary

    Hi guys,
    Well, it all went perfectly and like you said it would Byte. Plugged the box in to my parents TV and hooked phone line up, did the call back thing and low and behold i was watching the sports and movies through my box. Brought the box back up to my place, plugged it into the tv and after a few seconds of acknowledging no phone line detected messages(minor scare), it worked!!!
