Either a communication error or The other lot are expecting a free ride. I would say that it would probably have been best to actually deal with the two in question. It may not have been their idea at all, it may have been entirely the middlewoman.
If you were talking to the twins directly, you could have negotiated a better deal.
At least you pulled out and aren't left stranded with a bunch of tight arses;)

Heh, while I think there was definitely miscommunication along the way I honestly believe that they genuinely expected the tickets for nothing. "they were only going to go if they only had to pay the name change" Not much you can take up wrong there.

Like I said I don't really know the two girls at all but as far as I know (from what my sister told me) they were fully on board with this little plan. Who suggested it in the first place, I don't know. But I have to say I was shocked that they were serious when they said it to me. Very surprised.

Very glad I'm not going now ;)

    Here's my solution anyway:

Cost of 2 new tickets and what the twins would spend if no deal took place: 350
    Chinafoot's investment: 250

Total cost of Chinafoot's tickets inc. name change: 350

The twins should contribute 204.17 towards the 350 required, saving 42% on what they would otherwise have paid, with Chinafoot completing the 350 with 145.83, saving 42% on her original 250.

    :D
