Can anyone suggest how much labour costs would be to get a Celeron D 2.66 CPU replaced?

If you did it yourself it would take - literally - 2 or 3 minutes at most. It's easy, I'd recommend you do it yourself. Some places will actually have the balls to charge up to 60 or 70 quid for this amazingly simple proceedure. People don't realise just how simple it is.

I was in PC world the last day and they 'only' charge 70 euro for fitting a stick of ram - I actually got really angry thinking of all the people who actually pay for this ridiculous proceedure which unlike the cpu takes about 20 seconds max. 3 euro a second - PC World know how to charge!

Although if you mean the overall costs of replacing the processor plus getting it fitted, if you bring your case into somewhere remotely decent they'd probably change it for you if you buy the processor off them (just not rip-off-world). What do you want to replace it with?

I'd say it should cost no more than 50 euro. I'd also recommend doing it yourself. Computers are just like lego, one pops out, another one in. There are plenty of guides that will show you how to seat your processor. I'd say it'll take 15 - 20 minutes all told (unplug cables, get top off, get old proc out, new one in, heatsink on, etc.)

If you were being paid to do it, then you'd also be covering the risk of a botch job and having to replace the processor yourself. People pay PCWorld €70 because when things go wrong they have someone accountable to turn to (not that PCWorld would give a crap anyway).

It's actually €35 for RAM. If you wanted PC World to change the CPU it's €50.
