Its the cheapest Blu Ray player on the market.
It will force 360 prices down.
Sony will force MS to make their console better via updates and vice versa, that can only be good for the punters.

as a 360 owner hopefully it'll being ALL game prices down to a maximum of €59.99 for a game, many 360 games are still retailing for €74.99 which is crazy.

The fact the I bought a 32" LCD HD-ready tv just to play it, it makes gaming so much more fun, oh my god it's just heaven, the graphics are unbelievable, and the hd scenes from MotorStorm look the business. I can't wait to GT HD.

In fairness a lot of the positive that I like about the PS3 do have a negatve as well so it's not really bashing the machine to point out how a feature can be improved.

    Online

+ FREE online & messaging is great

    - No generlised gamer invites. and Messaging is clumbersome in regards to the fact that you cant message whilst in a game, or read your messages whilst in a game is a pain. The fact that the PS3 notifies you that you have a message whilst playing a game, but then you have to quit the game to read the message which could be a message from a friend to see if you want to play a game...

    Playstation Store

+ Free Demos and it's cheaper than the USA (Tekken is €9.99 $13.50 on our store, compared to $19.99 usa)

    - So slow. Downloading demos can take forever, thank goodness for background downloading, it was painful up to 1.60. And why is the Euro PS Store so much slower than the USA one. It's painful just loading it in comparison.

    Six Axis

+ Motion Tilt possibilites, Familar design, light and rechargeable battery built in

    - Battery life isn't great as bluetooth is always heaveir on batterylife than RHF wireless. Trigger buttons can feel a bit clunky and no rumble is an issue for many (not for some)

    Blu Ray

+ Next gen movie format. Nice :)

    - Blu Ray is still region locked unlike HD-DVD which is a pain for people who like buying films cheap online and get titles sooner rather than later.

    HD-TV

+ Great that it has HD-TV support with HDMI and Component

    - Component is noticeably inferior quality compared to the 360's component output, no hardware scaler meaning a 720p game will never be upscaled to 1080i/p if your TV supports it.

    COST

+ Very cheap considering its components and compared to standalone BluRay players

    - Expensive if you just want to game and have no intention of using movies

    PSN Remote Play

+ Great to use your PSP to watch stuff you downloaded in another room

    - There is a lot of delay at times when accessing your ps3 through your psp, and after you've experiemented with it a lot - you soon realise its a bit of a gimmick

The Ps3 is a great bit of kit, it has plenty of positives and negatives. Thankfully a lot of the neg - points I have mentioned above could be corrected with firmware updates.

The Ps3 has a bright future, but in a time when 3rd party game exclusives are all going multi-format (an inevitable event simply because of the cost of development. $30-40 million and thats without marketing etc, of course publsihers and developers are going to want to sell the games on all the formats to try and guarantee their financial survival) it's going to be interesting to see how Sonys first party and second party developers manage to capture this elusive power the PS hardware has yet to really show.

It's a beautifully designed piece of hardware and its almost completely silent running which is a huge plus in my opinion. Any multiplatform games I'd buy the PS3 version on the basis of that alone, unless there's some massive difference in the ports.

Online is free, people are saying its not as good as live but I haven't found it noticeably different, the only difference is that all games aren't forced to support it, meaning a few early releases have slipped through the net but now that it's set up I'd be surprised if any multiplatform games didn't support PSN equally as well as they support live. Things can only get better too with Home and all its features on the way.

The joypads have proper rechargeable batteries built into them and just charge off a bog standard USB cable, getting rid of the headaches wireless controllers on other consoles give, no need to ever buy batteries and/or charging kits.

It has by far the best value for money downloadables with full retail-standard games coming in at around £6(I'm in the UK at the mo) and smaller games at £3 or less. There's also a decent amount of free content already available which will hopefully continue, free downloadable demos are a godsend just as they were on 360.

It's region free - if you're willing to import than you'll be spending a lot less on PS3 games than on 360 or Wii games.

It's very open - you can use any old headset or webcam or keyboard and mouse from your PC, and it also takes standard 2.5" SATA hard drives so no need for expensive branded peripherals.

All five of the above points add up to a lot of long term savings relative to the other consoles to compensate for the initial outlay.

In terms of games, it's got exclusives like Little Big Planet, the next Team Ico game, the next God of War, a bunch of other titles that cover new IP like the one in the desert from Studio Liverpool and the one in the jungle from Naughty Dog, and the big hitters like Final Fantasy, Gran Turismo and Metal Gear. It's also still looking to be the most popular platform for third party small Japanese developers as the 360 is struggling in Japan and we're already seeing games like White Knight Stories for ecample looking to continue the Playstation's role as the platform of choice for Japanese games, compared to the western led 360(with some exceptions of course)

Also, with two analogue sticks, a full range of analogue buttons(I missed analogue face buttons on the 360 though I know its not a big deal for many, using triggers for racing games tires your fingers but with no analogue face buttons there's no choice, there's other games have used these to good effect too) and of course the motion sensor the controller has a lot of potential. The accelerometers within the sixaxis are exactly the same as the wiimote, which means it's technically capable of all the wii sports games(they don't use the sensor bar) other than boxing so I wouldn't be surprised if we eventually see some games using it that way, but it's obviously got all the traditional bases covered too. And rumble is all but guaranteed to be coming eventually, so don't buy too many joypads just yet.

Actually 75% of 360 games are region free, and can usually be picked up for €35-40 online, much like PS3.

It's the wii with its region hardware lock that ironically for me has ended up the 'cheapest' to buy hardware wise, but the most expensive games wise...

Either way region free gaming is sweet - just a shame about movies.

I agree its the first party and second party titles that the ps3 will eventually be judged on, most on that list are great examples, except couple at the end.

FF - Square are talking about going Multi-Platform because the cost of development for FFXIII is so high they need to hit as many sales as they can, and they may not be able to do that with the PS3 this year.

MGS4 - has been long rumored to go multi-format. And with the advent of titles like Devil May Cry, Ace Combat, Katamari Damacy, Mercenaries 2, Assasins Creed etc.. all going multiformat, the pressure is even greater on Konami. I imagine this will eventually go all formats but maybe with a limited time exclusive period for ps3.

Either way - there should still be plenty of great first and second party titles like the ones you mention alongside the nex Ratchet game which looks sweet, and a new Wipeout etc.

I'm definately gonna get one when the big games come out.

About a dozen on the USA store, havent checked euro store for them. You download them onto your psp's memory card. Games like Jumping Flash.

Konami have said that MGS4 will not fit on a standard DVD disc, so it going multiplatform is very unlikely as MS have also said they will not be having games put on HD-DVD.

And just before release Insomniac claimed that 1 level of Resitance Fall of Man would fill a DVD, and yet the Demo featuring 1 level and the biggest part of any game 'the engine' actually only takes up 750mb or so.

The size thing is pretty much BS marketing. They've all gone very quiet about the claims since the console came out. Co-incidence ? I think not ;)
