NTL update in Finglas area?

Got a call from NTL on Tuesday night telling me they'd updated the mast(?) in Finglas and would I like to get their broadband. I told them that I had NTL out already to connect broadband and they couldn't get a signal so I went with eircom.

So Wednesday evening I come in from work, turn on my tv and box and I get a message on the screen: "Do not turn off your set top box, an update is taking place, this may take a few minutes" At the bottom of the screen it said "stage 1" through to "stage 4". Two hours later and with it switching back to "stage 2 and 3" I turned it off and tried again. About 2 hours after that I got a message telling me that it couldn't be updated, and that I should turn my set top box off at the mains, check all connections and try again.

Anybody else ever encounter anything like this?

    The two are unrelated.

It sound like your cable was out as I've seen this before. Your box was confused and thought an update was happening. Updates should not take more than a few minutes.
