Back problem

I have had problems with my back for years after a bad injury whilst playing football in Dublin. I have been doing serious weights for 2 yrs. My back always got sore but not to the degree it is now. Its extremely painful.
Anyone had similiary problems before ? I am thinking of quitting the gym and going with Thai Chi for a while. Or peharps trying to come up with a routine that doesn't put strain on my back.

I have payed a fortune in physio and chiropracter fees in the past, which has not solved the problem so far. Due to a change in careers, I am not in the position to start paying again for another 3/4 months.

I love working out and find it hard when I can't so i am really trying to find out what i can do to solve this problem until i can afford the huge fees to try get it fixed.

    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
