Planning Process

Hope this is the right spot for this query.

I heard yesterday that there is a hearing for the proposed IKEA development. Does this only happen in certain cases? A development I objected to is due for a decision soon, and I heard nothing about a hearing - got the impression that the decision was made behind closed doors. I don't see anything about it on the bord pleanala site either.

an board pleanala is separate to the local auth. planning process. so they wouldn't have anything on it.
not all developments have hearings, normally only large developments that affect whole areas, and the council or local political figures have a public meeting with local residents

    Hi Mellor.

The objection is with bord pleanala. The local authority already approved the development, so I took it further. My understanding from what you said is that An B P will not hold a hearing and arrive at their conclusion privately?

sorry, i thought you were refering to a LA hearing, probably should of paid more attention to the Ikea comment. ABP can hold a hearing, but I dont know how often they do. Sonebody else might know for definate

Anyone making an appeal to ABP can request an oral hearing but AFAIK its at the Bord's discretion whether to accede to the request or not. Matters that are adjudged to be of significant importance can result in a public hearing, again if deemed necessary by ABP

its rare for abp to have a oral hearing, generally on very sensitive cases....their decision is also final....no come back unless you go to the high court...!
