Hi guys. I was flicking around wikipedia and found the below:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bushmaster_IMV

Aparently its an armoured car (used by australia) designed by an Irish firm called Timoney. I never head of any Irish defence companies so I was quite surprised. Are they a big company? Does the Irish army use them or have any plans to do so?

Timoney are a moderately successful company. Their 'big product' was the vehicle later produced under license by the Belgians as the BDX. It wasn't a particularly good vehicle. Although they have tried to produce complete vehicles since, and had a fair crack at a Taiwainese APC contract, their success of late has been in the licensing of their suspension technology, which is now found in a large number of military vehicles, both armoured and soft-skin. The Wikipage is not entirely correct. Timoney are a partner in the construction, but the design of the vehicle itself came from Perry Engineering, a subsidiary of Boral.

Didn't they also design a Fire Tender? I think they are based in Co. Meath or at least used to be.

Back in the 1982 a number of Timoney APC's entered service with the Defence Forces and this one in particular which was boarded many years back, is now being restored as an exhibit at Collins Barracks Museum.

The Taiwanese or ROC Army are buying initially some 600 odd CM32 "Yunpao" APCs, 8 Wheeled APCS somewhat similar in look to the MOWAG or Strykr. The design from what i gather was done by timoney but the units will be manufactured locally in Taiwan. I think they plan on having on between 700-1400 of them...

It is apparently a fair bit cheaper than the Stryker package the USA was offering.

I think the vehicles in the pic are in a vehicle scrapyard in Coolmooney Camp. The Unimog in the background is well obselete.

That photo was taken in the Curragh and some time later all the vehicles in that compound were moved to Coolmoney Camp. The Unimog in the background could possibly be the one that went to Clonmel and as already stated the Timoney is going to the Museum in Collins Barracks, Dublin.

I was talking to a few australian guys who were on leave from Iraq the other day. I asked them about the bushmaster, basically they said:

    -The armour is terrible.
-It's not really that fast, they have faster apparently.
It's ridiculously comfortable - he said they usually just doze off in the back on journeys...
    -Drivers love them

Overall they seemed to like it, but weren't happy about the armour...
