    Hi just a quick question,

Is it possible to connect a NAS Hard Drive to an eircom Wireless modem router.

I would like to access the storage from a laptop in a different room from the NAS/modem/router.

    Thanks in advance.

    Vinnie

Then yes it is. You can find NAS enclosures that can connect using to your router using ethernet or wireless. Then you can access it via any PC connected to the router. Connecting the drive via ethernet is usually preferable.

Elara has a good range it seems

    Thanks Mod,

The enclosures seem to be a little expensive from Elara.
    Found this on Ebay:

    Would this do the job?

That probably would do the job but it's only an enclosure. You still need to put a hard disk into it so buying that isn't going to be your total cost.

On paper, this item will do. However, if you are expecting the NAS to operate 24/7, then noise, stability and durability of this enclosure will be something you want to be aware of.

I use a Linkstation myself, stuck in a little corner next to the adsl modem - unseen and quiet.

    Thanks guys for the help.

I just wanted to know if this was possible.

I have a Hard drive so i will consider the options on the enclosures.

    Thanks Again.

    Vinnie,

Maplin are doing a good deal on a 500g linkstation at the moment for 330 euros (I bought a 250g one about 2 months ago for 300 I think).

Other thng to watch out with the enclosures, is that some of them apparantly are not strictly using the NAS protocol, and so will nto work with some applications. Specifically for example I bout a NAS enclosure which would not work with a SONOS system, so if you are looking for it for something along these lines be careful.
