Gamecube controllers

Hi, just wondering if anyone has had similar experiences with gamecube controllers?

I picked one of the white gamecube controllers in Game up for €15. All seemed ok with it but now the front left button on it constantly jams inside the controller. In particular when playing Metroid 2 as you have to target with that button. You have to take a flathead screwdriver to it to get the button to pop back out! Not exactly convenient in-game

Are the official Gamecube controllers a better design or did I just get unlucky with this one?

More than likely unlucky!! If you have a receipt then return it and tell them its faulty!!

Hi Machalla, I bought the same controller, but haven't had any problems yet....
Except: it wont work with VC. Have you noticed this problem too?

I can't get past the 'you need a Classic Controller' message. Works fine for GC games though..

I've ordered a Wavebird from Play Asia. Couple be a couple of weeks though..

I think you need a classic controller to play most of the VC stuff actually. Gamecube controller is only useful for gamecube games. Might be wrong but I think thats how it works.

I of course managed to get rid of the box for the controller as all seemed ok with it till the last couple of days. Still have the receipt but no box.

Hi Machalla, no you're supposed to be able to use a Gamecube controller (as long as that VC title supports the GC controller (denoted by a GC icon on the game's page in the shop)).

However, it seems that Game's crappy GC controller won't work with VC (unless someone can confirm otherwise).. I have a classic controller already, my kids just wanted to play 2-player Mario-kart, but can't with this lump of plastic.

ah ur kiddin me? i have 2 of them game ones! bought them so i cud play GC and VC games with them! that sucks balls!

For the record the official Gamecube controllers are really well made.

I've broken PS2, Xbox and Xbox 360 controllers with ease... but none of my 4 Gamecube controllers have ever had any problems.

if you can't use the game gamecube controller on the wii for virtual console games then i am bringing it back! :mad:

I would too, but like Machalla, I've thrown away the box.. Then again, it could be just my Game GC controller.. If anyone else has tried it, could they confirm that it doesn't work on VC?

I spent a long time searching the net, and eventually found some posts/threads that pointed to problems with 3rd party (un-official) GC controllers playing VC games..
