No interview for Govt job

    Hi,

I applied online for a job in the Dept of Environment as an assistant auditor. I had to fill in an online application form which detailed my qualifications, employment history and it also asked me to give a brief description of my knowledge of auditing techniques.

I got an email from publicjobs informing me that my application was unsuccessful as i did not display enough knowledge of auditing techniques.
(the application form asked me to give a brief description of my knowledge of auditing techniques).

I am currently working in an accountany practice for the last 5 years (since i left college with a degree in accountancy) and i am fully qualified ACCA member (which is a requirement of the job).

After my application the least i would of expected was an interview, and i am a bit annoyed that they have rejected my application based on the above reason. If the form had of asked for a detailed write up on my knowledge of auditing techniques i could have given them that.

Sorry about the rant ;) but does anyone know if i have the chance to query a decision like this or will it do no good. I don't want to make myself look like a bighead saying i deserve an interview but i feel i tick the boxes they're looking for.

I'm not sure about querying the decision, but traditionally there's little leeway in talking your way into a public job. You either tick all their boxes, or they don't hire you.

They often have the person who will get the job preselected. It might be worth raising a Parliamentary Question if you are really annoyed.

I find it hard to believe there are auditors queuing up to work in the civil service.

I just want to get out of practice and try something new. I contacted the HR people yesterday asking for an explanation as to why i wasn't considered for an interview but they are yet to get back to me. I will probably get a standard response but i was happy to get it off my chest anyway.

That is often the case (unofficially), but they usually still have to go through the motions of wasting time and money interviewing others.
