Has anyone esle heard about this yet ?? I was a huge fan of the tim burton films .. i thought the one with jim carrey was watchable ,, but after that it just got crappy ... the batman begins one everyone said was going to be brillant, i was feeling not well the day my sis had it on dvd so maybe thats why i walked out after 10 min + katie holmes is and will forever be annoying .. but now i heard there is a sequel with this guy Heath ledger playing the joker .. are they having a laugh ... ? i know jack nicholson(70 now i think but he didnt look that old in the departed ) is prob too old & the style of the films is different now , so he couldnt be it again, pity because he wanted too ... does anybody know if he commented on this btw ? but heath ledger??? come on they musta been able to get someone better .. i only know him from being in the mel gibson "the patriot" and some other teen films .. hes not a joker ... i think he is totally wrong choice for this part .. anyone esle agree ?

Are you joking me ( pardon the pun)?

As much as I dislike Ledger, he's fairly perfect for the Joker.

It does seem a bit odd at first... but I have a lot of faith in Nolan's casting decisions.

Apparently Maggie Gyllenhaal is replacing Katie Holmes as Rachel Dawes in this one... which great as Holmes was the only real weak link in Batman Begins.

Oh... and don't forget Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent.

i suppose i cant judge him as a actor that much ,, but i havent even seen him in many films ??? what films was he in apart from the patriot ... ?

to me he just doesnt appear "evil" enough ... thats the way i liked it before evil/crazy ..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,396 ✭✭✭✭kaimera

He may not appear evil enough but when has he had to do so?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 74 ✭✭hel_hev

true ... i suppose if you have nt seen him in that part before you cant imagine it anyway .. but still ,, just doesnt seem right at all hehe

do you think when this film comes out all the critics might say he wasnt as good etc .. because to me anyway in the 80s film jack nicholson was prob one of the best movie villians ever .. so he ll have a hard time living up to that ...

For my money Batman Begins was much better than Burtons cartoony strokes of eccentricity, and Sam Hamms screenplay for the original lacked a hell of a lot, even making Jack Napier the killer of Bruces parents.. this was thankfully rectified, along with a lot else, in Christopher Nolans fantastic movie. Jack Nicholson was confident in The Joker role, but I still think James Woods would have been perfect in 1989. Heath Ledger is a good choice for The Joker, definitely.

i still dream of what would have been if Dark Knight Returns had of been made, with Eastwood as Batman..............

I wasn't wild about Batman Begins either. I was really looking forward to it at the time but was very disappointed with the finished result. I've rewatched it several times since but my opinion remains the same.

While I don't think Nolan is a genius like some do, I've really enjoyed his other films especially The Prestige. Begins had it's moments but it just felt sloppy and undercooked, lacking the kind of flare Burton brought to the franchise. I guess the Burton films, while they were far from perfect (especially the first one), just appealed to me more. Even though Burton never explored on-screen the Batman/Bruce Wayne character to the extent Nolan did, I still think he had a better understanding of the character.

I'm still looking forward to The Dark Knight however. Ledger will make a great Joker and Bale should be much more comfortable in the role the second time.

The very fact that Burton had Batman going around murdering people shows that he hadn't a clue about the character.

Batman did kill in the early comics however. And I wouldn't consider the killing Batman does in the Burton films (the Joker? the fat guy?) as murder. They'd have killed him if they had the chance. And the "I won't kill you, but I don't have to save you" line in Begins was bs imo.

I thought Batman Begins was the best of alll the batman movies to date (including the original with the Joker). i'm not too keen on the casting of Ledger as the Joker, but I'm keeping an open mind about it.

I loved Batman Begins, but I'm not particularly confident about a sequel. The origin story in Batman Begins was the best part (for me anyway), and I dunno how well they'll fare without it.

Ledger is perfect for this role .... trust me he's gonna surprise people!

I read a Sam Hamm Batman comic after the first Batman film got released and it was awful when compared to the likes fo Alan Moore and Frank Miller. I wonder why Joel Schumaker took the Batman franchise in the direction of the 60's camp TV series though? Terrible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,404 ✭✭✭qwertplaywert

there was whole camp movie scene around then
    which he brought crashing down

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,372 ✭✭✭✭Mr Alan

Not the biggest fan of Heath Ledger, but i think he is talented enough from wat i've seen to suggest he might be able to suprise people. Think the worst mistake he could make is to try and imitate the way Big jack played the part.

I remember at some stage just after the first Nolan one came out hearing that Michael keaton was going to be playing the joker ...... and i thought that would have been absolute genius! anyone know if there was ever any talk of that or did i dream it?!?!?!

    O RLY?
    batman_000.jpg
    I think you're right. :p

Apparently there was a 1943 serial too, has anyone seen that?

I'd love to, taken from the IMDB quotes:
Alfred Pennyworth: How many did I kill?
    Bruce Wayne: Seven.
Alfred Pennyworth: But there were only four of the ruffians.
Richard Grayson: You killed three of them twice.
Alfred Pennyworth: Where are the bodies?
Bruce Wayne: We threw them out the window.
    Ahahahahahahahaaa, wtf?

There is also an old silent film called The Bat which predates the comics, but the character is almost exactly the same, except he's a villian.

It's been years since I've seen it, but it had the utility belt and bat signal and everything in it.

I'd love to see it again actually... I wonder if it's on archive.org

Must see this... *searches for a torrent*
    Omg, yes! Lols. :D

Anyway, what I wanted to discuss is, in case Nolan brings Catwoman into these films, who do you think would make a good Selina Kyle? (Halle Berry is banned!)

    I say:

aye.......isnt she rumored to be in line for Wonder Women as well?
on a related matter, didnt Joss Whedon once write a screenplay for a Batman movie?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,216 ✭✭✭✭monkeyfudge

Whedon's Wonderwoman has been scrapped. So it's unlikely now.

Cinematical.com quotes Sarah Michelle Gellar as being involved in the new Batman...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,579 ✭✭✭BopNiblets

She'd be ok I guess, but Inara/Adria has teh sexay voice.. :D

Assuming Nolan does a third Batman (I'm assuming he is, but has he/Bale/anyone else signed up for another one?)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,404 ✭✭✭qwertplaywert

apperently the 2nd movie[dark knight] is about them[batman and dent] bringing down the joker
the 3rd,ive heard, will be about his trail, and dents downfall into darkness......

about whedon/wonderwomen: sure he said he was never involved in the casting....he had never taough about it , and wasnt gonna till he was happy with the script.....so it was all the studio......so maybe she is still in line?

As far as I know, he's contractually obligated to do 3 films. Bale deffo is anyway. But don't quote me on Nolan. I'm not 100% sure if he is too.

Ledger did an interview the other day and siad he hasnt done a makeup test yet for Joker so I think that poster might be fake.

just re-ready by last message, and to clarify, by "in all his glory", i meant in full make up as oppsed to in his birthday suit, had enough of that with his turn in Brokeback Mountain, thank you very much!

That poster is not official. It's a fan mock-up. It's been floating around the net since last September or October. Just because it has the WB and DC logo does not make it official.

Yeah, there is no movie I'm looking forward to more than this. I'm going to try to discipline myself and not watch any of the trailers in the build-up. I doubt I'll succeed though, to be honest. I'm quite the fan of Batman as a character, to the extent that I'd probably buy and memorize a Batman-styled phonebook.

man, as a regular to the cinemas, it shall be diciicult, i also plan to avoid the trailers[the spiderman 2 trailer riuned the whole movie for me] so i guess that will be my toilet time/popcorn getting time!

Just saw a picture (not too close but you can make it out) of Heath Ledger in his joker gear. Dunno if he's fully made up make up wise but you can get idea of the look theyre going for. Kind of surprised really.
