CWC Day 8 - Kenya V New Zealand, Scotland V South Africa

Another day is upon us. Hard to see any upsets here. South Africa should be far too strong for Scotland. Maybe Kenya can be competitive against the Kiwi's, but I cant see it.

    Thoughts?

    Updates here tomorrow

Scotland will give SA a good game... sarcasm doesn't come through well over the net without a "" does it?

New Zealand should stuff Kenya without too much trouble.

Here's hoping I don't have to eat my hat if we have another day like Saturday!

Mike... I actually think the opposite.... well not the opposite, but a closer run thing.

Scotland could give you a game like WI v Zim. Unnecessarily close.

Kenya are in form. World Cricket League, short shrift of Canada.... Fleming might have too much tactical nous for the Kenyans though.

I would like to think that Scotland will give SA a contest. It wouldn't be good for SA to have another Holland game... not with Aussie around the corner.

    Bumpety bump...

    And they're off!

Scot 0/0 after one over (A Pollock maiden... surprise surprise!)

NZ sent in to bat by Kenya... 2/1 in the second over with Lou Vincent sent packing by the 4th ball bowled in the first over by Odoyo.

    Update:
    Scot 14/0 5.2 overs
    NZ 13/1 4.4 overs

    Update:
    Scot 35/1 11.4 overs
    NZ 43/1 11 overs

    Update:
Scot 44/2 14.2 overs RR = 3.06 per over. Langeveldt takes Watts' wicket with his first ball. Caught at slip.
    NZ 54/1 13.4 overs

    Update:
Scot 63/3 19.1 overs Hall takes Hamilton's wicket
    NZ 85/1 17.1 overs

    Update:
    Scot 70/3 23.2 overs
NZ 115/2 21.3 overs Captain Stephen Fleming run out

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,870 ✭✭✭mikeruurds

    Update:
Scotland 85/5 30.3 Overs - Scotland seem to be a little aimless at the moment.

NZ 161/2 30 overs - NZ are doing well with Taylor on 58 not out

    Update:
Scot 127/6 after 44.3 overs - SA strangling Scotland with tight bowling

    NZ 275/4 after 43.2 overs

Boards cricket forum is a lonely place today ;) No games of interest to Ireland.

Scot 147/6 after 46.1 overs - a late accelleration by Scotland
NZ 281/5 after 45.1 overs - looking at a score of 320 here.

At least there's a bit of excitement at the end. It's not going to be enough though...

Scotland gave it a late surge.

    188-8 after 50 overs..

Not a bad score but SA shouldnt have much problem with that ;)

New Zealand 331/7 off 50 overs

Massive total. Styris went postal for a time..

At least it's enough of a score to give the SA batsmen some decent time at the crease.

I'm hoping that we won't have any upsets today.

According to Cricinfo they haven't even started yet :D

I have to get home!!! Is this game on normal Sky Sports or do I need to press the dreaded red button?

Edit: Just checked the TV listings thread and it's on the normal Sky Sports :D

Dammit. There is total gridlock outside my office (Ballymount). I'm not going to be getting home soon enough if Graeme is in one of his moods.

I was really hoping that the Scots would give us a bigger test before the big one on Saturday.

I think that the boys are looking pretty good. I think Aussie are going to struggle to bowl us out without Warney and Brett Lee.

De Villiers with 2 sixes in a row

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,691 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

    Sa 143-1

Bugger. Feckin rain. I reckon they'll be back tomorrow for the last 5 or so overs to finish. It doesn't look like the rain will be gone anytime soon.

    Mike

Edit: Mind you, there are still a ton of overs left so we might have the game finished today.

I just saw A.B.'s run out of Watson... damn - he's some fielder. I'd say he's spending a lot of time with Jonty now that he's the fielding coach.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,870 ✭✭✭mikeruurds

SA 188/3 to win the game in 23.2 overs... somehow I don't think we'll have a problem with net run rate :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,691 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

lol. I wonder if Scotland won the toss, what would they have done? I see Kenya won the toss, it worked for the 4 ball of the innings, less so for the next 295!

I thought Scotland and Kenya had a little more gumption.

lol also at SA's net run rate.... 5 :D

Crisis ><, was hoping i could get home from work and watch the end of the SA match, bastards are to good. Guess its a nice warmup for Saturday :D, De Villiers did well, glad they brought him into the team.
If everyones on there game on Saturday i reckon we'll take that game!

You need to watch the highlights. SA were amazing in the field. AB had a lightning-quick run out chance to take Watson's wicket.

Somehow I don't think that the result would have been much different. At the run rate that they were going at SA would have probably posted 440 or some ridiculous score and then restricted the Scots to 220 or so.

I wish it would have been closer, but at least a few batsmen got a go.

Saturday will be the real indicator.
