Heya guys. I am a final yr student of chemistry and biology. Haven't registered for the Dip and want to give teaching a try:rolleyes: . I have been advised to look for a maternity leave opening in a school.... can you do this without the dip:confused: ?
Could ya tell me if there are any agencies I can register with that will place me in a school from next September. Then if I like it I can apply for the dip next yr.
    Cheers ;)

You can sub in a school without the Dip though you mainly cannot get permanent without it as its seen as a commitment to the career. Also coming on board (though year away) is requirement to be member of teaching council but think your grand for now. Usual way of getting work is sending your CV off to every school you can find on education.ie (department listings) and remember its not roses the first day I'm afraid. You will also find it very difficult to get chemistry jobs and things like Maths on your CV will bump it up a lot. Also keep in mind the Dip must be in for November and costs a fortune to do it and I know way too many people gone off doing other things after coz the jobs aren't really there.
Best of luck and post here if you have any more questions.
