Does anyone know what I can use to increase the range of my wireless router. The signal just fades when I get into my living room, where I want to set up a media hub for audio, video and gaming.

Can I just change the aerial of the router (Linksys WAG54GS bought in PC World), do I need an amplifier between router and hub(xbox 360 wireless bridge), or will I need to find another solution altogther.

    TIA for any help.

Wireless is useless for internal networks, particularly for transferring media. The best actual transfer rate you'll get is 18Mbps (and thats on a good day with a following wind you are more likely to get between 5 and 11) You will pull your hair out with wireless G

I haven't used Wireless N so That maybe an option. My guess is it wont me much better than G

If you want to to it right, run a cable. Its not that hard to do. If the two rooms are on the same floor just drill through the wall and run the cables in 20mm trunking across the top of the skirting. If you need to run from upsstairs its a little trickier but best bet is to get the cable in the in the attic and get it into the wall that runs down along the stairs. (send the wife/Gf off shopping for the day ;) ) Dont run Ethernet cables outside as nono of the cores are earthed. You'll get about 55Mbps on a 100Mbps router,

Another option is the Devolo 85Mbps ethernet over power adapters, again you'll only 18Mbps but it tends to be constant. The plug into a socket and you can connect your router/hub into on and your PC/another hub in to the other. The starter kit is about €160.

a 1 GB file will take about:
12.5 minutes on wireless at 11mbps
7.5 minutes on on devolo at 18mbps
    2.5 minutes on cabled ethernet
