I realise people have problems. I realise there are people with dyslexia and poor spelling.

Can people kindly stick to using proper English (or other language of your choice) in thread and especially thread titles? Txtspk and unconventional abbreviations are not permitted!

This thread was brought to you by the capital letter "A", the full stop symbol and carriage return.

This post was spellchecked with Microsoft Word.

The fact that some people have dyslexia isn't an excuse for others to use deliberately bad English.

Quite the opposite. If somebody has difficulty reading a post because of dyslexia or because of poor English literacy, what hope do they have reading something that is deliberately badly written?

So the fact that some people have dyslexia is an extra reason why txtspk should be avoided (also, who under the age of 45 still texts like that anyway? Get a modern phone).

What about the use of paragraphs? There's no excuse for not using them, dyslexic or not, and anyone who has yet to be taught when to insert a paragraph is too young to be using a public message board.

Yes there is. Quite a few dyslexic people find it difficult to understand how to express something in paragraphs, or understand it but find it doesn't happen in practice.

There's also a world of difference between any degree of editorial sloppiness (it's a bulletin board post, and probably made relatively hastily) and deliberately making your post hard to read like txtspk does.

That as may be Talliesin, but when faced with a wall of text many people just won't bother reading it. I know I don't most of the time. Even having a paragraph have a couple of sentences makes it much much easier to read, even if you wouldn't expect a new paragraph there. If there's no rule against it fine but people should realise they're limiting the number of people who are going to read their post if that post is difficult to read.

Okay. So go and find a cure for dyslexia before you post?

I agree that people should take an effort over posts and there have been quite a few where I've just not been able to make head-nor-tail of it, but banning people for doing so is a bit much.

People who use txtspk are deliberately making their posts hard to read, which is quite different.

If only we could but tht's not going to happen anytime soon. My point was that , like you say, people need to pay more attention before posting if they're expecting someone else to read it. Banning someone might be a bit much but at the very least a probation\ warning is in order.

I'm going to have to disagree you on the two things being quite different. If you've written a ream of text and not put any carriage returns in then you probably need to.

I'm personally against the banning of posters for using txtspk as we have written in the charter, it's not pretty but I don't think it deserves a ban.

The PI mods are discussing this.
