So, since airsoft is not just about skirmishing, i thought id post this thread, who here would be interested in doing practical shooting with their airsofts?

Basically practical shooting involves moving through an obstacle course and shooting targets as quickly and accurately as you can. You've probably seen it in films before where human-sized targets move and some of them are civilians and some are bad guys that need to be shot, metal targets etc... are also used.

So who would be interested? I might talk to nonex next week in hrta and see if he would be interested in setting up a practical shooting course. (or if he reads this here, whichever)

There's some info on the US airsoft practical shooting site and plenty more available via google.

Fantastic idea in my opinion. Brings another element of competition to the sport.

    Great suggestion.

Just thought of the Simpsons there with Marge and Chief Wigim, ''You missed the baby, the blind man...'' :D

    Good idea though.

This would be great but would our equipment be good enough for it. The targets would need to be paper thin. But I love the idea of it.

You only need to mark the paper/targets, not pierce them. But I don't think there would be a problem with piercing paper at 20-30 feet. I could be wrong though, I've never tried it.

well yea, you could have metal targets that fold down or even just use coke cans and knock them down or something.

there's a pretty good video on youtube of an airsoft practical competition here

That was a pure mad video. The average age limit there was pretty high.

    could also use these
derek in bfsl showed me them the other day, he uses them for target practice in the office. they're designed for live rounds, but you still get the effect with an airsoft bb, the black paint flakes off when hit and leaves a luminous yellow background, easy enough to see. they come in a variety of different sizes too.

I was using them myself recently out the back garden. They're really good alright. The luminous yellow can be seen from quite a distance.

Although, I did get a bit silly and go full auto on it. Didn't last too long.

But for semi theyre great :D

Sounds excellent. The targets in that video are pretty easy to make too by the looks of things.
