Does anyone know if these are available in any shops in Ireland?

    http://www.almax-security-chains.co.uk/

Apparently they're the dogs but the size and weight concerns me a little - I'd at least like to hold it and feel exactly how heavy it is before splashing out on one.

Anyone recommend other good lock and chains? Getting me new bike next weekend - it already has an alarm.

I've just purchase the Immobiler III with 2.0m chain from the following.

    http://www.sounddistribution.co.uk/

It comes with a free lock bag and tool kit. I only purchased it last night so I don't have it in my hands yet. I'll let you know how I get on. I've purchased from them twice before and would recommend them. Note, that their website says that they don't export anymore, but I mailed them and they said Ireland is OK. They just don't want to export to USA due to losses and delays.

Had my bike nicked recently and am not taking any chances this time. I already have the RIDE magazine recommended Squire lock and chain so this new lock is for work so I don't have to carry my chain to and from work.

The videos on the Almax website are an eyeopener and are one of the main reasons I went for this lock. They even made mincemeat of my current squire lock!!!!

PS Regarding the weight. My existing 12mm 1.2m long squire chain is heavy so I expect this new 16mm 2.0m long Immobiliser chain to be a back breaker. You would definitely need a lock bag strapped to your bike to carry this.

PPS Make sure your chain is long enough to fix it to something secure. Have you got a ground anchor at home? If not this would be recommended.

PPPS Your chain should not sit on the ground as it can be smashed with a sledge hammer. Apparently the beauty of the Immobiliser lock is that it has long links that allow you to minimise the slack so that it isn't sitting on the ground

These Almax chains look impressive! Might be getting one myself once I can afford it!

PS: These videos scared me! They cut these chains in 10 seconds flat!!!

Yeah...they actually scared me into buying one!!!! the chain and lock I already have was highly recommended in RiDE magazine and it was minced in about a minute

put it this way...can you afford for your premiums to double when some little runt nicks your bike. My premiums went from €800 to €1600 when I lost my no claims.

I know these things don't guarantee your bikes safety but it knocks the opportunistic thieves off the list and makes the professional thieves work that bit harder that may make them move onto the next bike!!!!

    Chain arrived today. As I said above I got the 2m chain;

    a) The 2m is very long (about 2000mm to be exact  )
    b) Very very very heavy. Don't have exact weights but you would not carry this chain around at all. This is really meant for leaving at home when you lock it up at night.

By the way I got free postage and packaging on this. They offer this for all orders over £150 sterling to the UK but as they don't export anymore you have to ticket the box stating that you are in the UK and then put in your Irish address in the delivery section.
