New to Online Play

I have been a poker player for fun mainly for a good few years now, it used to be very socially at home but I increased to playing about two times a week now at Uni.

I like to play a tight game and not chase a lot of crap hands, and muck a lot of crap, that I would have used to have played.

Recently I moved to online play, where I was focusing mainly on 0.10 / 0.25 cent games on PartyPoker. I was wondering is this a good place to start or am I aiming above my means in terms of place and blind levels?

So far I have invested about 70 euro, and had some pretty wide swinging results, my strategy so far has been to put $10 on the table (they ask for 25), if I loose 5 (normally wastage through blinds) I leave the table or if I double up I also leave (reasoning for this is not to over expose myself to all in calls).

So the reason for this post was to ask about poker software, is there any good free tracking software for tracking my hands or should I invest in some good specific software anyone can recommend?

I am also starting reading books on the subject as well, so far I think I have played about 1000 hands and am down 50 euro of my original 70 (granted I have had a number of very bad beats recently, but I expected that). I am just to trying to get a sense as to whether I am approaching this correctly if my aim is to become a good poker player.

I have read the FAQ and it seemed fairly sensible, but if anyone cares to explain more about bank rolling as well, I would be well interested in hearing about it.

you'll need 3-500 quid to play 0.10/0.25 comfortable.

maybe stick in a hundred and grind out at 0.05/0.10

variance is less of a killer at low stakes but try to get a bankroll of 20 buyins
(1 buyin - 100bigblinds) and move up levels when your bankroll permits you to do so.

its a good habit to get into starting out.

regarding software your better off paying the 55 quid for pokertracker.

its an invaluable tool which will be worth the money.
