iPoker Tech support for disconnections.

    Hey there,

I know a few (not sure how many but enough!) of you are having some problems with disconnections from the iPoker network.

I also know many of you havent been getting great support because the guys are over run with support issues.

Here's a Networking 101 primer for you all and perhaps if you can follow some of the steps and feed me info, I might be able to do a more thorough analysis of the networking issues.

Aside: Ianmac, that does sound like a BS answer from support. I'll try and get a proper one this weekend if I can.

Technical Info Follows, May Contain Traces Of Nerd:

    1. The Ghz of your chip, size of Ram or quality of Video card are relatively unimportant in this situation. Provided your machine is reasonably new you dont need a monster of a PC to run any of this, nor will it benefit you. Unless your machine is struggling to draw graphics, or takes a while to switch to other applications (ie: drawing the window takes a few seconds rather then being instant) then you should have no issue with networking because of its spec.

    2. Your network card and ISP are critical. Are you on Wireless? Some wireless routers are known to have issues with high repetition connection software (specifically bittorrent clients) which might lead to disconnections between you and your wireless router.

    3. The internet isnt a direct connection network. The bits of data you send to iPoker have to travel through maybe 20 computers between you and them. Normally if any one of those 20 computers is offline the internet will find another route around the break in the link. This is called "routing" and is crucial in this question. Neither your machine nor iPoker have gone offline so something in between is screwing up.

Normally if something screws up the internet routes around it so since its ISNT doing that its most likely either something in your local area, or something local to them. My guess would be a router that is getting over loaded by traffic and simply cant handle the throughput in time. Software that is waiting for a reply will eventually time out and say "I havent got an answer from the last package of data I sent, so I am guessing I've been disconnected and so I had better tell the user that". Often it hasnt been disconnected, its just taking a long long time to get an answer.

Obviously dont be downloading anything big while you are playing, certainly dont have Bittorrent or any BT client open as the connections and the upstream bandwidth usage will F*CK your connection.

SO WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP ME LOCATE THE PROBLEM:

Firstly, if you have this problem, please answer the following questions either here or in an email to mike @ greenjokerpoker.com or tom @ antesup.com

Do you receive an error code, please state exactly what is displayed?

Are you on broadband or Dial up?

Who is your ISP (Internet service providers)?

What version of IE (Internet Explorer) are you on? – go to 'help', 'about Internet explorer' to establish which version.

How much memory does your PC have?

What is the speed of your processor?

What is the age of your PC?

Is this the only program you are running when the error occurs?

Are you on Wireless or do you use a cable to connect to the internet.

    Optional for the tech-minded:
Can you drop out to DOS and perform a: tracert 212.111.40.38
and then paste the results here. It will time out when it hits their network, thats normal as they refuse tracer packets to stop anyone ping-bombing them. If you can tracert to their network then at least I know your ISP isnt having a routing issue to them.

I hate IT guys who give you some bollox answer to get you off the line rather then taking the time to do an investigation but the truth is that networking is a black art and not always a science. These answers will give me the data I need to focus any investigation on a particular area.

    DeV.

ps: This isnt just for GJP players, PPP players can give their answers too and if I find a fix I'll post it here for everyone.

I noticed when I first installed the new software that every 10'ish mins or so Zapro would pop asking for permission to let casino.exe out. Once I said no... and i got disconnected. Casino.exe appears to need to access the net every 10 (Maybe15/20) mins?

Just thought it was worth mentioning the firewall/casino.exe part! If I get a disconnect for any other reason I'll post a tracert.

Sweet, thanks. Was it asked for access out on a particular port?

Sorry Dev... It was just the usual ZA/Zapro pop up alert. "Casino.exe wants to acess the internet..."yes/no"

If i get a chance over the weekend i will remove it from the fire wall and see if there is more info available. Not promising anything!

By the way... tbh I thought (After I heard about it) that it might have been like the PokerStars thing where it sends back hand results/betting habits to help the RNG? Thats why I stopped it once.....

Well I think it was poker stars...
