Did the 225 ever come to Shannon?

    Slightly off topic ......

Saw a AN124 in Dubai last month , never seen the 225.

Has anyone else seen that mad looking Airbus that carries wings/other bits around Europe for Airbus Industries ( EADS ) ? It overflew me when I was driving past Chester last summer I nearly crashed the car .

I remember the Guppies before that , used to seem them occasionally in the UK

See other posts for the 380 , looks like they are doing a sales tour of the US at the moment , trying to keep the Airbus flag flying I imagine with all the bad news ( delays/layoffs etc ) .

    .

The AN125 is common in Shannon, Theres some kind of a maintenance contract with them, often seen them parked up near the Industrial estate end of the airport with engine pods & bits missing from them.
The AN225 landed in Shannon last summer but I was in Dublin and missed it. For security reasons it is difficult to get advance notice of any air traffic.

Wrong its the AN124 that is common in EINN as that is a major hub for the AN124.

I think that was based on the super Guppy. Imagine if they made an A380 varint!

    Hi,

Yes Steyr thats the baby I saw , what a mad machine !

Also I have just remembered I saw the 225 with the USSR's Space Shuttle thing at Paris Airshow wayyyyy back ( could have been early 80's ). I have a photo or two somewhere , Ill look them out and scan them in when I get time.

Lets start a new thread on wierd flying machines ........... if you want to make it wierd things seen at Irish Airports it may be more ' inclusive ' not all of us live in the west .

Just saw a 380 fly overhead in Filton, Bristol and nearly missed it due to it being so damn quiet. It was still all in white so I think it must have been coming in to get painted.

The A380 you saw is NOTAM'd for doing a touch and go at EMA then low fly past rolls-royce derby late morn early lunch monday. 11AM to be precise.

They actually just had it on the local news in Bristol and it's apparently staying at Filton until Friday but was doing a fly past the Rolls Royce factory before landing when I saw it. The Airbus person on the news said something about it's being there as part of the general testing before it can become operational, but it looked more like it was actually there as a tourist attraction for the Airbus workers on their lunch break.

Will have to find myself a better location to watch from on Friday than the parents back garden.

Antonov were looking at similar ideas for a 1,000 seater.

The A380 keeps on flying past over the last couple of days but its too damn quiet and I almost miss it each each time. Would have got some nice pictures of it going very low over our house just now if I had had a bit more warning to turn my camera on and get out the door. it is a good view of it that we get though.

It just went past again after doing a lap over our garage just before hand so I had a bit more of a chance to get out the front on my crutches to be ready with the camera. Managed to get a couple of snaps before it disappeared behind the neighbours house:

The An 225 Has been to Ireland.I cannot remeber if it was Dublin or Shannon but it definetely was here. There is only two of them AFAIK and one may not be airworthy up to Western standards so this plane would be a rare sight.I have seen the An 125 IN Shannon and as has been said is common enough down there.

Shannon used to take flying boats.
