does anyone know if any operator can do a facility where each incoming sms can be either redirected to or copied to an email address. i.e. if I don't have my phone or it is out of coverage then all incoming sms's go to my email either instead or aswell as.

I don't think so. Never heard of something like that to be honest. Closest things, which is still miles apart, is sending MMSs to an email address.

Nah, although you can use things like www.webtext.com to handle Email to SMS/SMS to Email for you, but it won't be your number...

They have the ability to do it (at least Voda do) ;) but its not something thats advertised and you need to talk to the tech support people to get it done.

I'm aware of a few solutions like that but it is specifically to get incoming sms on an Irish number to go to an email address. I can't understand why the networks don't provide such a facility seeing as it would save transmission space. Even voip services provide email redirection for voicemail calls.

I guess something like this would be more hassle then it's worth for the Tech people in the mobile companies. It would only add a lot more overhead for something the vast majority of people wouldn't even want. Would be a very handy service though, especially if you're phone is dead or lost or out of coverage etc.
