I am not a jazz fan. I know nothing about it. A lot of it sounds difficult to my ears. I went to see a band called E S T in Solstice last night. Is that jazz? One tune I was hoping that they would finish so I could just applaud. Another song I sat there with my mouth open while my head burst with strange thoughts. One sounded like metallica. Another sounded like I do not know what but it felt as if I had never heard real sound before. It was a pretty amazing experience. I presume they are quite well known here. Can you point me in the direction of more of this stuff while it is still legal. Who else is good to check out in that style?

    Going tonight as well \o/

Re original question: can't really think of anyone that sounds the same but you might want to try Return to Forever by Chick Corea (amazon link) or Passengers by Gary Burton (amazon link). Another thing you could do would be to search out the top european artists. Maybe you'd like Nils Petter Molvaer - he mixes electronic music with jazz.. could also try Tord Gustavsen, Thomas Stanko or Jan Garbarek. It's hard to know really, as I can't tell what it was in E.S.T's playing that you liked. The most fun is in the exploring anyway!

    Check out the bad plus!
Alot of it would probably fo over your head if you're not used to jazz but they also do the whole blend of jazz with pop/rock/electronic etc.
They're different (really weird!) but brilliant musicians, probably most famous for their mad covers of Smells like teen spirit, heart of glass and Aphex twin's flim.
