This pc has a legit windows xp home key but something has gone corrupt with the Os at mo..Its my friends pc and she doesnt seem to have/find the resource or windows xp home cd. She doesnt even think one came with it. I put in a windows xp home cd to try and recover it but no joy...

I get as far as the windows xp home screen and the slider bar does its normal thing down below and then a flash of a blue screen and then a restart.

I went into setup using a windows xp disc and it shows the following:
    Unpart space 8meg
    F:/ Partitioned (Inactive Os/2 Bootman 2000meg
C:/ the usual size of disc etc..
    unpart space 8meg....

So what are my options? Does packard bell have some recover console thingy?

    Thanks

    They do indeed.

I had to do this for a friends Packard Bell PC. You can D/L the software from Packard Bell site. You will have to search a fair bit to get it though if memory serves (also why I haven't given you a link) :D

OK....I'm feeling nice...a link to get you started. Without knowing more about the PC this is as far as I get.

    So I'm bored!

Looking around the Support site it seems all Packard Bell PC's since 1999 use the same recovery CD.

This can be got HERE. But do check the specific model just in case.

If memory serves there is, somewhere on the PB site, copies of the resource CD's...could be on the user support forums. It's a while back and my memory ain't what it used to be

Thanks for that but no joy also, nothing happens when I hit F11. I did a start up with a floppy as well as the cd(both are same) and it happens to load the start up for windows 98.

I can make a normal start up disc of 98 without it asking me for the master cd interface. If I access the inactive partition through this I wonder could I try the windows exe in dos?

when it asks for the master cd just hit return, if it has a restore partition this should work from there.

I reinstalled xp home for my friend before on a pb computer.. he had no cd's so i just used my own unbranded oem disc with his cd key and then it installed fine.. it wont activate over the internet but when i did it i just rang up mircosoft and explained what i was doing.. they asked me where it was bought, what make etc and when i got all the answers right gave me out the activation code no problem.
