Thought I'd get in before anyone else!!!

Triumph is a tough race this year. I liked the look of Degas art since he made a winning debut over hurdles but was really worried about Howard Johnsons stable form. The runs of Tidal bay and Inglis Drever no longer make his form a worry so i will have a small ew on him.

No matter how much I say i won't I know i'll the heart rule the head and back leading run in the 3miler. To be honest the only thing in his favour is the step up to 3 miles. I though they'd wait for fairyhouse with him for the grade 2 Vic venturi won last yr. Don't slag me for this as I am fully admitting that I shouldn't back him!! Witchita lineman has obvious claims especially on a line thro the first and second in the Ballymore yesterady and flight leader's January form has been upheld in the stayers. A cracking little race.

Will probably just watch the gold cup and for all I hate Paul Nicholls I hope Kauto star destroys the gold cup field. Will probably not carry my cash but I'd love to see him confirm his superstar status.

Foxhunters is a no bet race for me. Whyso mayo looks very clasy for a hunter chaser but can throw in the odd wobbler at his fences. A worthy fav. I'll be cheering on First Down Jets as Liam Burke is a man I respect greatly and would love to see a local (well local enuf!!) trainer take a festival race.

I have backed saintsaire at 7s and was delighted that Nicholls left sporazene in. H has a good chance but will have to have improved from his last run to win this. Happy with 7/1 but will start very short tomorrow especially if Kauto wins the Gold CUp. i might chance a specultive ew on bambi de L'orme if 33s is still available as he is well weighted to reverse form with saintsaire and ran well off a higher mark when attempting the impossible 2 yrs ago (i.e. beating Fota island who had about 2-2.5 stone in hand)

The nicholls hotpot in the county has looked soft over hurdles and I couldn't back it to come up the hill. A no bet race for me but would love to see maralan run well for Patrick Brady, who knows maybe he'll traet the crowd to a full striptease if he wins!!!

likewise fancy degas art in the triumph. haven't really looked at the rest. backed the listener antepost for gold cup when it looked like being a bog but don't fancy it now  talk of pulling it out. Am very tempted to have a hefty one on kauto star

These tips were sent from Pat Power to employees. As you can see he is better at running a business than backing horses but still good to keep in mind. I think I will be bouncing off the genius who posted all the winners on boards for the last 3 days and Paddy Powers selections for Friday. Please mate, put your predictions in as early as possible tommorow. Are you God in disguise???

I know nothing about jumps racing. :)
OK, I've backed My Will in the Gold Cup at 21.
He is trained By Paul Nicholls
He is very slow, and couldn't jump a twig.

Exotic Dancer in the Gold Cup. Kauto Star will fall at the second last or last, it's a cracking horse but just gets too excited in the closing stages and makes tiny mistakes. Another thing, I remember Ted Walsh saying yesterday moring on C4 that AP had dropped a fair bit of weight to ride Moncadou yesterday.

Well thats what I'm hoping, the bookies are loving me this year, though I absolutely fleeced them last year :)

Kauto Star seems like a nice lay. I think the low odds its at are ridiculous considering Paddy Power is also giving 5/2 odds on it falling. Its almost like they are saying that if the horse doesn't fall it will win, which isn't strictly true. Its definitely the classiest of the horses but plenty can happen.

Kauto Stars stamina is by no means perfect. If it has an errorfree run I'd definitely consider it likely win. But there are other horses in that race that could still beat it on their best run. Some of those being at pretty long odds. I just think theres huge value in a 6/4 lay on a horse that there are huge doubts surrounding. I felt the same about Well Chief and backed Voy Por instead and that 1 worked out. Not to say this will but theres definitely value in it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,080 ✭✭✭Crumbs

1 point means betting whatever your normal bet size is. For you it could €3, for me it could be €50, for someone else it could be €1,000. 2 points then indicates increased confidence and recommends doubling your bet. Et cetera.

Normally, people would work on confidence levels up to a max of 3pts or sometimes 5pts.

1 pt is one pint of guinness. For some bookies you can just put a pint of guinness on the counter and say I'll put that on L'ami in the Gold Cup.
Yesterday I put a pint on L'Antartique which came home at 20/1. THe bookies gave me 21 pints of guinness but it wasn't such a good idea as the head on the 21st one was fierce manky by the time I came to drinking it.

i dont doubt his stamina at all, especially on good-soft ground as it was at kempton. the only time the horse's stamina can be questioned is when it makes stupid mistakes at fences. if it makes them mistakes here at cheltenham the horse wont get away with it and will not stay on its feet. therefore, unless it makes bad errors which is likely imo nothing will be near it. imo backing it would be risky, laying it would be stupid so im not betting in the race:) but questioning its stamina is stupid, most horses that make rly bad mistakes dont win, it stamina is grand.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,951 ✭✭✭DSB

As I said, I'd still consider it the most likely of all the horses to win if it has an errorfree run. My point was that I still reckon there is horses in that race with the potential to find more. Making 6/4 very short odds on a horse with a tendency to fall. This horse is a good horse but it has alot to prove before its a great one.

You know what....I'd nearly put a few bob on Beef or Salmon. He was taken over by plane instead of shipped to the tune of over £25000. Its his festival swansong, more than likely.

Fair play. Great run. I think some of the placings might have been different if it wasn't for the loose horse though. Seemed to stop a few horses from being able to run their preferred race. Don't think anything would have beaten Kauto anyway though.
