Applying for multiple jobs in civil service

Have applied for two separate departments in the civil service. Interview for the first job is taking place next month. Pretty confident i'll be offered it. The second one i'm after is a far better job, and the one that i really want.

Just want to find out if i get offered the first job, and accept it, will i then be excluded from pursuing the second.

The reason i ask, is that someone mentioned to me that if you quit the civil service it's almost impossible to get back in, regardless of department.
