Command-click on the name of the folder in the titlebar. The path will pop up in a menu.

Alternatively, go to the "View" menu and select "Customize Toolbar...", then drag the item labelled "Path" anywhere into your toolbar. Click on that to get th e full path.

cheers thats great! I suppose one other question would be is there any way to type in the location to a folder in finder rather than have to click into it.

e.g. if i am looking to navigate to a folder 7 subfolders deep, can i type the URI into finder somehow? rather than have to click into the 7th folder level?

    thanks again.

Command-shift-g. Use 'Tab' to auto-complete directory names.

You can also drag a copy of your hard drive (or any frequently-used folders, like Applications) into the dock in the area where the trash is (careful not to put it into the trash itself!). Then when you click and hold on the icon, you get a pop-up menu of the contents (after a second or two), and you can pop-up deeper levels of subfolders until you get to the item that you want.
