Folding equity

This is a term I hear of a lot and while I know what it is per se, it is not something I tend to think about while playing.
So my first question is do you always think of the folding equity for every decision you make as in you make a continuation bet on the flop are you thinking I have 70% folding equity etc?
And if you do calculate it, how exactly do you calculate it. Is it just a rough number of the top of your head which you get by watching how someone has played previously or do you have some formula?

theres no real way to calculate the % fold equity you have.if you estimate that an opponant will fold 70% of the time,i think its more a figure you have come up with intuitavlely based on what you are representing, what he is representing, the texture of the board, stack sizes, etc.

im not sure ive come across fold equity being stated as a percentage either.

im not a particularly mathematical player though so im sure someone could give a better answer than this.

edit:sorry forgot to answer first part.i dont think for simple decisions such as betting out being the initial raiser fold equity holds such importance.it becomes more important as a pot grows and a mistake is much more significant.its not always correct to bet at a pot just because you have no other way of winning it.if you determine you have no fold equity you can shut down and save a lot of money.

I think the % come into it more when analysing a play after the event. When working out the EV of a play the % gets defined as the amount of times a player needs to fold for the bet/raise to have a positive expectation

    MOTHER OF JESUS !!!

I need Nurofen. No. F*ck that. Get me morphine.

Someone's going to have to explain this stuff in a simple idiotproof way so that this simple idiot can understand it.

I read the post the guy referred to first and I just know I had a cerebral haematoma. I'm off to Beaumont now to see if they can fix me up before I read the other post.
