Assuming we can get halls both these weekends, which one would suit you better.

If you're a coach/promoter and you have a lot of commitments that would conflict, please let us know.

And we'll also do our utmost to have 3 arenas for the nationals to speed things up and have an absoluto! (C'Mon John Donnelly vs Tim Murphy 2!)

Just wondering Colm, What is the age limit for the competition?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,448 ✭✭✭Roper

I just voted for May 12th but then remembered I can't do it. So i vote for June!

Juniors are anyone who's 15 or younger on the 01/01/2007. However, if you compete at adult you can't compete at junior level after that.

No upper age limit on adult competidors.

Competition time runs from Sept - June, so it's a 2006/2007 season.

The MMA League's season is in time with the Calendar year.

    Thanks for all your input.

June!! how am i supposed to get to -75kg by may?

Just a heads up for November 07, I will be running another charity team submission tournament along the same lines as the last one. Probably End of November, in St Andrews College.

Entries will be €60 per team of 6 plus 3 sleeping bags (argos have them for €10 so thats roughly €13 euro per man)
-62,-68, -75,-83,-92 and open are your weights to fill on a team.

Money goes to Make A Wish Foundation and sleeping bags go to SIMON.

I fully support Dave's super fun happy team tournaments. They're a great addition to the sport as the last one was a very friendly and relaxed deal, with some technical zhoo zhitsu thrown in as well.

Any possibility of one before November?

Any possibility of one before November?

I guess we could fit one in during the summer, problem is people tend to be away etc etc.

Once NSC date is set I will try to get one under way in either June or July then.

Ill still run the November one, but if anyone has a suggestion for a charity for summer one PM me. I was thinking Irish Hospice Foundation but am open to suggestions.

    June, definitely

June gets my vote, and don't worry Darragh, this event won't be clashing with any others so we can attend both senior and junior days.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,084 ✭✭✭mark.leonard

I should also mention that the likeliest date for the Antrim leg of the MMA League is the 9th of September. August is just a bad time for competition and because of the poor uptake for that leg I had to move it into September. I hope I am not muscling in on any NSC dates?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,448 ✭✭✭Roper

Hey Dave if you are planning a summer team event and are worried about attendance, maybe as a suggestion you could make it a smaller team with more open weight categories?

I was thinking that because it would be easier for smaller clubs like ours to get a team involved. Just a suggestion!

Was planning on running the Dublin Open end of Sept/start of Oct. I want to give people as much of a break between the league, Sub Champs and the Irish BJJ Open.

Mark - do you always pick MMA League events to clash with Irish international rugby matches? Granted it's against Nambia and on at 8o'clock but it's still the Rugby World Cup.

Roper - Dave's open weight is +92 Kgs. You'd want to hit those muffins big time if you wanted to make that!

July last year got a good enough turnout. If we pimped it enough at the NSC in May/June we could arrange a couple of cross club teams for it.

    Colm,
    1. Don't underestimate my muffin eating capabilities, in any case I meant more open divisions as in more space between each category, not the openweight per se.
    2. There is no such country as Nambia, there is a Namibia though.
    3. Do you have those kids photos from Sunday?
    4. I checked my speeling in this post REALLY carefully.

Yeah I'll mail them on to you this evening if I remember of don't go and get wasted, which is what I'm currently feeling like doing. Have a few vids. I want to get something done with all the kids shots and the 300 music. I have a bloody mac, maybe I should use it for something other than just word and firefox!

I'll close this poll after the weekend and take the votes then. JK, Andy, Davie, (and any other coaches!)how do these dates sit with your teams?

I do seme to clash with Rugby a whole lot, completely unintentional though!
Colm - make sure not to put the Dublin Open on the same weekend as UFR 9 (29th of September) or we will have similar scheduling clashes to the All Valley, a week later or two weeks later would rock

Did a straw poll last night at training, most want to go for June rather than May. College Exams etc

June to be fair would suit me best too, but if May is the date, I will make 75 in May.;)

Hopefully we might get a few more teams in the team event this year. Great cause and I think everyone enjoyed it last time. If you cant find a fat bastard sorry +92kg fighter, Im sure some other club can supply one. :) I myself have a couple.

I'll do it. I fought +92 for team "made up on the day" last year. (i fought -62 and -68 for my own team :D )

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,923 ✭✭✭Nothingcompares

I agree with roper that a team made up of 5 guys in order of weight but of any weight is the best way to go.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 901 ✭✭✭David Jones

"Team Made Up On The Day" kicked ass last year!

My other alternative is to have everybody enter as an individual and then do a random draw on the day for team formation, which might make it very interesting.

ie 1st -62 out of the hat goes team A, 2nd -62kg out of the hat goes Team B and so on.

Might let everybody get to know one another.

I applaud that idea, excellent way to bond the different clubs.

Just wondering, what are the weight categories for junior category?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,577 ✭✭✭Colm_OReilly

Juniors are under 16 on the 01/01/2007. If you've competed at adult level you can't compete at junior.

Juniors are then subdivided using a rough reckoning system. We aim to have 5-6 per category and usually we have 8-10 categories. We decided it's quicker than weighing them in and works out just as well.

    cool thanks
