Your figures fail to take into account any calls or texts on an offer rate and the Vodafone figures are for the tariff which favours daytime calling while the O2 and Meteor tariffs shown favour evening calling. You've ignored 3's rates.

At the end of the day the best value network really depends on a person's usage pattern.

go to www.callcosts.ie - its operated by comreg and will give you cost to the penny based on what your useage is. Brilliant site.

Yes, noticed that in the past, but 3 doesn't offer free webtext like other providers do, that's the only reason I haven't moved to them.

    Regards

Be careful with three - anyone calling you from a land line is charge 30% more than calling you if you are on O2 or Vodafon and 20% more than if you're on Meteor.

O2 have better offers via their website www.o2.ie

...and same here! Ye with Meteor by any chance? Dunno of anyone on this network who has got the cheap txt program (or gmail for that matter) to work on their phone...

Anyway - just to add my 2 cents, Meteor is the shizzle.

Was on a few different Vodafone plans (billpay) - moved to Meteor - buying credit, I'm hardly spending 1/4 what I used to. Good on em! :)

The only issue AFAIK from talking to friends is if you are out in the wilds - you are more likely to have crappy reception sometimes. Otherwise, its the dog's...

Agreed and agreed. Small price to pay for the small price you've to pay though.

with vodafone, im getting charged 13c a text

At the very most, you should be paying only 5c per text by buying €20 text bundle.

Personally I can't get over how good AFT is. To see a list of proven handsets go to http://aft.donutsoft.net. I'm on Vf and i use aft over isp. It costs 1c per text (actually 1c per session as I rarely go over 1Kb). I use text bundle texts when i'm in a serioius rush or when I need a delivery report.

One last thing. Vf do the great free cred with upgrades. You can register one bonus pack every 30 days. I got one in January with €120, one in Feb with €80, and another with €80 just 2mins ago. This means I'll be getting €30 cred per month for most of the rest of the year. That's a total of €117 spent (€39 per upgrade) for €280 of credit.

Also, I got two of them unlocked by Vf already, so next xmas who knows which operator I'll go with.

Elites if some of the people you text are on Meteor you could port your number to Meteor and, for a €20 top up, get free Meteor to Meteor texts for 30 days; and you've still got the €20 top up to use for your calls. Plus the top up should last longer with Meteor's 20c per min. rate to any network or landline, anytime.

Even if some of your friends are not on Meteor, at 9c each Meteor texts are still cheaper than Vodafone's at 13c each. Or you could buy a text bundle for €7.50 for 150 texts to any network. That's 5c per text, although any unused texts expiry after 30 days: http://www.meteor.ie/payg_5c_text_bundle.html

Extra: You can get a free SIM and €50 free call credit just for moving: http://www.meteor.ie/payg_freesim.html
