Lost some files after defragmenting

    Hi,
I defragmented my laptop lately cause it was running very slowly. The speed is fine now but winamp has gone missing. The icon is still on my desktop but when I try to play a movie, nothing happens. Any ideas about where it all went wrong?

    Welcome to boards.ie

A defrag shouldn't cause files to get lost. I'd say you should reinstall winamp.

And run a scandisk to check for errors.

Additionally, and in a more general case, HDDRegen will allow you to create a bootable floppy and/or CD which will do a low-level sector recovery for sectors that have been incorrectly magnetised.
It's filesystem-agnostic, and I've used it to recover a few drives which I thought were dead.
It won't help with drives that are physically knackered though.

Maybe too obvious but have you tried a simple search for Winamp? Perhaps defragmenter for whatever reason moved it or the shortcut is pointing to the wrong place... But probably you'll just have to download again...

I've tried to download Winamp again but I can't get past the skins section. It just won't download.
Someone in work here mentioned something about codec. Would that have anything to do with it?

Is the winamp installation folder still in c: programs ? If so click on the executable to see if that's working , if not the installation must have gone corrupted somehow else just drag a new shortcut to it onto your desktop.
