Was that guy supposed to have an Irish accent? It was putting me off all through the episode, how he seemed to keep dipping in and out.

Aside from that, it was good but not great. Random guy appears from nowhere and knows everything about everyone... Too much focus on him and not enough on Balthar himself. Does Balthar have any kind of a plan? Has he given up and lost his marbles completely? He doesn't seem interested in the help the guy was offering at all. I guess it makes sense, he's a broken man at this point, but I'd like to be seeing a little bit more of him.

Interesting set up with Lee now wanting to help the defense, still doesn't seem to add up to me, thinking back to how he acted putting ethics ahead of all else in the prison ship episode for example, wanting to help defend Balthar seems a bit out of character, but I can see he's going through a lot at the moment so it's understandable.

It still feels like the whole thing is moving a little bit slowly though, I want them to get on with the trial already.

I enjoyed it but then I'm very easy to please.

Lee and Adama scene's didn't make much sense.
    Who was that Oirish toaster?
I thought it was funny the way he stole el prez's glassses.

Good ep loved the way Lampkin used Appollo against Adama

Guy defo has a klepomaniac vibe.

Didnt mind the accent too much roll on next week

Not a good one at all, this has gone totally off the boil, I feel its going to drag with this bloody trial as well. And don't get me started on the accent, very very annoying.

Boring. Here's my episode summary: Baltar gets a new lawyer team. Did I leave anything out?

At least Adama called up his daft son on being a lawyer. Their arguments though seemed very petulant and not becoming of an Admiral and former Admiral of a fleet...

As to that accent. He seemed to be trying to mimic (badly) Colin Farrell. *Shudder* What's with this actor anyway? When he's not doing a dodgy East-End accent in 'Firefly' and 'Medium', we can see him here doing.. something. The guy's from the UK, surely he's had half decent exposure to us..

    THAT's what he's from!!

Was wracking my brain trying to remember what I'd seen him in - FireFly.

Was sure he was English but starting believing he actually was Irish for a bit but the accent went in and out throughout the episode.

They're building up for the trial be the season 3 finale, that's why it's taking so long. It better be worth the wait...

Probably, but as two people who've never had that great a relationship and who're trying to get over the loss of someone close to them, the petulance is a bit more understandable.

Like people have said, this episode is a build up to the end of season, prehaps a little slow paced, but more happened than some are giving credit for.
Oddly i can see baltar getting out of this one, who ever this new lawyer is, he seems to know what he's doing.

Like Maelstrom before it, how good this episode is depends on what come from this buildup, hopefully it'll be worth the wait.

My, er, cousin only sent me two thirds of the goddamn episode!!

Seemed interesting up to that point.

And, I thought it was a decent Irish accent. Sounds as oirish as that muppet Farrell.

    Something bothers me:

1st season: Chief Tyrol finds a bomb inside the cockpit of a raptor.

this episode: a bomb detonates on/inside a raptor

SAME EPISODE: they let another bomb be placed on the wing of a raptor????

I may be a bit rusty, but anyone who has ever flown an airline knows the outside of the plane is always checked before the plane leaves the gate...and you're telling me that they wouldnt do the same on a MILITARY craft when they have already lost people to bombs???

Whats all this Irish nonsense? Don't inflate your ego's too much ya paddys ;) he clearly has an Aerlonian accent...

Okay... That episode did nothing for me either. Sorry to only stop lurking on this forum to make a negative comment, but I think i'm gonna give battlestar a miss from now on, maybe catch the last few episodes of season 3 all at once in a couple of months if somebody assures me it's improved drastically...

How many eps are left after this one? 3 or 4?

2 - it's a 20 episode season, like last year. Hopefully things will improve now that we're at the end.

    Thanks.

It had better get really good really fast

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86,729 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

oh you just know they'll leave it on some hanger like they have in the other 2 seasons and then you will *have* to watch the 4th season......douchebag writers....

EDIT: also consider this episode was a prototype for Caprica....I mean, won't that be all about law and stuff? Probably going to be similar stuff to this ep.

I may perhaps shock everyone, but I thought it was a good episode.

Apart from the fact that there wasn't enough Baltar, they did a fantastic job setting up a charecter who's obviously instrumental to the next 2 episodes. Sadly, with this kind of exposition, we really do need to wait untill the next episode to see where this is all going, and to get the full impact of the character, unlike the kind of backstory that was simply introduced as filler that I ranted about, this seems to be leading somewhere.

On another issue, is it just me, or will an Irish person just rant on auto-pilot about an actor's "Irish" accent, reguardless of how good it is? Maybe it's just me, but Lampkin sounded absolutely identical to a friend of mine, apart from the odd slip. Christ, it's not another Tom Cruise job, leave it be!

You are not alone, I also though it was a good episode ( i would even say a great one ). It’s nice to see the character driven stuff coming to the fore again, the next two episodes are looking good if this is a prelude to what to expect.

Must say I also liked the accent and found nothing wrong with it, seems people here object to Irish accents unless they sound like rte newsreaders lacking in any obvious dialect or nuance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,717 ✭✭✭Praetorian

I liked it as well. The accent wasn't too bad for an english guy. Lampkin could be a very interesting character!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,149 ✭✭✭✭Lemming

I liked it, although at the same time didn't think it was great. It'll be interesting to see where this is leading to. The actor playing Lampkin was entertaining to watch and
the manner in which he is manipulating people is superb.
Things like his stealing of Baltar's pen to manipulate Caprica Six with are leading interesting places. He's not manipulating people to do what he wants per-se, but appears to be setting them up emotionally to do it themselves when the time comes

He is english born, but has lived in Dublin a while back, played in a few bands here.

Ye I got a chuckle out of everything he stole

I don’t know why people get bothered by accents so much, there was only one that I can ever remember that pissed me off, some street black guy movie and one of the guys in it all I wanted to do was smash the ****ing TV into the ground, how can any creature talk like that and still be considered intelligent anyway im ranting away, back to Lampkin. So what makes you guys think this guy would have an Irish accent he has never been to earth (that we know off unless he is one of the final 5 and maybe the final 5 resurrect to earth Maybe?) anyway my point is his accent is his accent, it’s not Irish because the Irish people live on earth, Why would u human from a different planet be able to speak a earth accent well?

Like Maelstrom before it, how good this episode is depends on what come from this buildup, hopefully it'll be worth the wait.

Ye i was getting annoyed at people here complaining about BSG because it cant be 10/10 all the time and when they are leading up to something people always bitch that it is too slow or whatever, I think BSG is the closest any show has come to being flawless, I know it’s not flawless but I can find allot more wrong with every single other show than I can think wrong with BSG

Ye i see where your coming from but think that they are doing that EVERY SINGLE time a ship leaves so it would get monotonous and then add in all their emotional and personal/relationship problems along with everything else one would assume they can’t be on the ball all the time
I may perhaps shock everyone, but I thought it was a good episode.

I Did enjoy this I didn’t give it a 5/5 because if I gave this a 5/5 what would I give the season one or two’s finale’s or any of the countless amazing episodes a 5/5 this was a very good ep but not quite worth the 5/5 Still an amazing episode and I’m glad others thought so as well.
