    ok, heres the deal,

i got a strat lying around that i rarely play, its not in great condition so its not worth the hassle of selling and none of my non-playing friends want to learn on it.

but it served me well for ages and i dont just wanna turf it, so i was thinking i might do something interesting with it.

ive got a bit of a thing for f-holes and i think my strat might look spiffy with them.

..router'd the full way through the solid body.

now the idea's in my head i really want to do it.

can anyone think of a good reason why i shouldnt? like aside from reducing the sustain a bit i dont think it'l kill the guitar. if nothing else ill have a conveniant carry handle

I can think of a couple of reasons...

    1) Is it a genuine Strat?

    2) It's gonna be a sonofabitch to get right.

Having said that, it's an interesting idea. Here's the problem: You obviously want to route from the back and leave a relatively thin amount of wood at the front. Then you're gonna cut your f-hole into that, right? The contours on the back of a strat will make clamping a template quite difficult, and - again because of the contours - the amount of wood you will be able to remove will be quite small. In fact, with the elbow contour on the front of the guitar, I don't think you'll be able to fit in an f-hole at all, at least not with a full size scratchplate.

Sorry to piss on your cornflakes, but that's how I see it.

    You'll just trash it.
