Online vs. live

Someone please tell me that I'm not crazy. Well, about this. ;)

Online the only real achievement I did is win a ticket for the WSOP. For the rest its lose, lose, lose. Not that I always lose, but in the long run I do lose. I probably 'donated' half my WSOP ticket to online poker. Statistics tell me to stop playing, and I decided I am stopping...from now on...(online that is)

Live I win. Not always win, win, win but overall I am up plenty. Going to the casino nets me a hundred or two or three every time I go, since if I don't win in the tournament I'll win in the cash game. And in the statistics from our local (small) games I'm ranked 2nd out of 22 players.

So my question. Even though the exact same rules are used and in fact it is the same game, how come? Is it possible that I have prolonged bad variance in one and good variance in the other? Is online poker rigged? (pretty sure it isn't) Am I relying on my reads much more than my maths? WTF is going on? How is this possible?

live players are awful! Far worse than online, that might be a factor.

I tilt very easily playing online. When there is no one else around to see you playing terribly, i dont seem to care as much. I play like a maniac sometimes online, really really lag... too often. although according to my stats im up

also that the lowest stakes game you get live is 1/2. 1/2 is far tougher online than live. all the absolute donks play for much lower stakes online

If your the player I think you are, ie you called me down with 2nd pair k with a 7 kicker for most of you stack in a live game when I raise preflop and bet all streets and you still couldn't fold, well maybe this explains it.

    If not, sorry for asking.

ok, well in general you have to be tighter online and play the cards more and use position, if you dont use these techniques in live poker than you've been lucky, but online there essential

GL in Vegas and hope to see you there.

If you won a ticket on line and otherwise lost about 5grand then youre up about €4g for online (ticket = about $12000).

    That solve the mystery?

That is correct yes. But I used the ticked to play in the WSOP '06 and didn't make the money. Granted that's moving online money to live. Also down 5k may be a bit overexaturated. However, the exact figures don't matter to me. I'm not reloading a single cent anymore and going to the local casino more often instead.

Maybe others are right and its the opponents. I honestly don't know. But as long as I'm winning in live play and losing online then I should play live but not online. All I'm hoping here is to gain insight in the reasons why this may be. Because I know I can adapt and online is much easier for me. Live tends to start late and end early in the morning etc. Thus online is an option again once I know what to do differently.

You're probably playing games that are too big for you online and think that you can beat them because you can beat a similar size game live. Move down to 5c 10c or something and see how you get on over 50k hands. Move up if you do well.

I've won a lot more on line. I prob only break even live. Presume its cos I only play tournies, I cant afford the higher buy in games so the blind structures on line are much better. Every live tournie with a small buy in turns into a complete crap shoot after about 2 hours, or worse, its a rebuy.
On line the blind structures are better and you've an edge over more players in the big fields.

maybe is because you reraise people preflop with 72 thinking they have AA and you will stack them on a x72 board?
