I'm planning on going to a charity ball this evening, but dont have a tux! Dress code says 'cocktail style'...how formal is that? I was thinking of wearing black trousers, black jacket, tie, white shirt etc? I have a feeling I'm giong to be the only one not in a tux:(

im not 100% sure but i think you should be ok with what you are wearing. if it said 'black tie' thats mean tux but it didnt. i was at a ball a few weeks ago and we didnt really set a dress code. some girls wore ball gowns some wore knee- length. a few guys were in tux's but it was mostly suit and tie. i realise you are probably nervous but it will be fine. is there no one you could ask?

    hope this helps

Found a little something something for you.

Says dark suit for him. If I had to dress my partner for a cocktail event, I think I would stick with a solid colour (defo not pinstripe) and play it up with a bold tie.
