silly poker(ish) ruling question/side bet question?

playing cash in the jackpot yesterday and myself, aodea and fiddlesticks have prop bets on the flop.

if a 9 hits the flop, they both pay me a euro
if a J hits the flop, myself and fiddlesticks pay aodea a euro
if a 3 hits the flop, myself and aodea pay fiddlesticks a euro

rules are you must claim your win before any action takes place... so what happens if the sb checks the flop in the dark? technically action has taken place, so when the board comes JJJ, i shouldnt have to pay 3x€1 to aodea should i?!

i ask this here cos this is a game that ianmc, lloyd and flushdraw introduced me to in the emporium, so you are the rule makers...

also, what other bets like this are there out there? red/black flop??

We do this occasionally for a fiver a go at the legendary UCC poker society.

As for your question, technically action has taken place, yes, but it's really up to ye, I'd imagine. I'm sure that if the flop had come 999, you wouldn't have brought it up. ;)

Haha, well I guess when you've bullied your way through a field of about 70 to the final table for a 1st prize of just €200, a bit of side action keeps things interesting. If you play it for any significant length of time, though, everyone ends up only either up or down a couple of bets.

Anytime IanMc and Flushdraw are in the same place they're gambling. True degenerates! Just a shame to see such them dragging Lloyd and Jeff down to their level.

Good to see that youre keeping up the legacy Jeff :D

If the SB checks in the dark, then you still get a chance to call for your card because action is live until the next player acts. Its the first player to act after seeing the flop. Not sure how you studenty types bet but its €1 for 1 card, €5 for 2 and €15 for 3 cards.

You can also go for the red and black for €1 for a majority and €3 for a whitewash. Theres also hi/lo and odd/even but i suggest roulette is the way forward if you wanna go down this road!!

And a note to Halfbaked, pot black kettle calling the......

Yeah, he can still claim it. Once he calls it when the flop is dealt.

just out of curiosity, why do they need to claim before any action, is it glaringly obvious, or is it just a twist to it, too slow no cash thingy

Its to spice things up if the game is getting boring. Its pointless if you only notice your card when the turn or river is dealt. Also just as a tip, if your mate happens to choose Jacks and a jack hits the flop and he doesnt notice, its usually because he has a jack in his hand.

i said ppay me with a jjj flop just as jeff said check however holding the other jack helped losing out.

I'll throw this into the mix... A check in the dark (or even a check post flop) is not considered "action" as far as rulings go... :)
    Just to confuse things further!

Well the odds of the flop coming 3 of a kind is .24% so thats 2.4 times every 1000 flops and considering that it has to be the cards that anto or fiddle have chosen, i dont reckon that you'll be going broke anytime soon!

Yeah i've been meaning to visit someone that lives in drogheda for a while now so this is a chance to kill 2 birds with the 1 stone. A few drinks, a late night and not have to worry about the long drive in the morning. All makes sense!!
