I personally don't think Playstation Home is that much of a rip off of the Mii Channel. Nintendo were the first so use Avatars on a console, but Sony's feature is more like a ultra-mainstream Second Life. It'll probably end up nothing but a big ad for other Sony products.

That said, Nintendo announced at GDC yesterday that there is a new Mii Channel on the way where you can interact with other Miis in contests so the two could end up more similar.

I don't think Home is anything like the Mii channel, for starters its actually going to be useful for something other than putting your face in a game.
This is well and truly going to be quite a good way for PS3 users to communicate with each other, organise online games etc.

I find the Mii channel completely and utterly useless, after I made my Mii, and sent and received some of my mates Mii's, I don't use it anymore.
Hopefully this new Mii channel they will be releasing will be much better.

Does anyone else think it looks like shiny, soulless chuff? Like a grim, realistic Animal Crossing, without the bulbous-headed owls collecting fossils and with micropayments, premium content and advertising space. Shudder.

I think they were ripping off Second Life more than the Mii thing.

Yeah, I really have no interest in it. I looked at it and thought, "That's pretty cool, but this is not for me". I have to wonder whether the market for it is out there though; not because I'm doubtful, I just have no idea.

I think it's more jumping on the bandwagon than ripping off since they have expanded and added to the original idea so much that it's something different now. I'd say it's just a glorified chat room and has no interest in me but it is a good idea.

wow that graphics on that look really good! looks more like the sims than the Mii channel too. they were decorating their own virtual home. I like how u can play pool and arcade game sn stuff! but i wonder will that be on a separate disco r will it be built in like the Mii channel.

oh wait, forgot bout the 60Gb hdd! well, its better than the Mii channel at first glance.

Looks like a completely rip off of second life more than the mii channel...

I can totally see this as ending up as one big advertisment, potential for Sony to rake in the money is huge, through ads/sponors, d/l content you have to buy and what not...

It's a nice idea, but then again, I'm the kind of person that would be happy with the most basic of interfaces for finding others to play online with, just so long as it does it's job right and there's no hidden extra charges down the line.

it doesnt look they did rip it off (not that i believed it in the beginning, it takes years to develop something as large as Home)

Agreed - although watching the Mii Parade is super fun!!!

The new Mii channel might be a bit better, but it still doesn't sound like much... I'm not looking for a chat room (and that's why a lot of Home doesn't interest me either).

I don't think Home is a Mii rip off though - in fact the basic point of Mii is to have your own character feature in certain games which I don't think Home allows you to do... it is very Second Life-like though.

well its a rip of animal crossing, sims and second life pooled together, but all on a deeper level. Now Im a nintendoid, but I am impressed. They came up with alot more than what other games have. Theres 3D chat, downloads, multiplayer, the list goes on. To be honest, Id almost buy a ps3 for this if it asnt so expensive and faulty.

Can't say i care much about the whole sony home idea, as it's part of the idea to make the Ps3 some sort of multimedia abomination.
Personally, i can't see myself wanting to chat with other playstation owners, or watch videos with them, or indeed interact with them at all outside of the bare minimum needed to set up a game of whatever i may purchase for the Ps3 once i've worked myself out of the debt i got into to acquire the thing.

I don't know who this is for, really. It's certainly not for me anyway.
The Mii channel is really little more than a mild distraction, but this seems to want to be some sort of 3D bebo or MySpace.

I can actually see this getting a scary amount of people following it.
X-Box 360 owners love their X-Box live, and if Sony rack up even have the user base they had with the PS2, this will be a massive thing, and it will be very much talked about, I thought all the negative things people are saying here about Bebo when I first heard of it, but look at it now, and Bebo is ****!
This could actually be quite amusing.I see it going places.

saw that earlier xd. That sucks big time. Sony have copyed nintendo a tad to much. First this "home"thing, wireless controllers and so on. TBH this is just liek a free game you get with it since you can play mini games. I personally would like mii channel better :) More basic, and you can get a good laugh making charecters. This is just mii channel takin to a more serious area
