Do any of you ever take snaps?

After two years with a brick I finally got a new phone (happy birthday me! :D ) that happens to have a 2MP camera on it. Its not a bad little thing - probably just as good as the P&S I have at the moment. That and Dara's poll post got me wondering - do any of you take snapshots? I answered 5 to Dara's poll too - apart from wanting to concentrate on it fully when I *do* have the SLR, its not exactly handbag sized. I never really bothered with the P&S as its 4 yrs old now and not great and pretty large too. I might just start snapping away now though.

Obviously I'm not talking about technically brilliant photography here, more capturing a moment. I've always enjoyed that level of photography. Do any of you?

The line blurs depending on how much effort I feel like going to. I was planning on getting a snapper because its not like I can bring a digital SLR out on the tear.

    on the tear?
bringing a camera to a pub rates somewhere between clubbing seals and eating your toenails in public in the "things not to do" list.

Tear as in ripping, not tear, as in what you cry.

Its an expression that means going out drinking.

i was looking at some slim line compacts and was thinking along the same lines - very handy for those moments when the SLR is inappropriate or not available. Cant afford one at the moment tho! the credit card would burst into flames! :(

Any time I'm left with a camera other than my dslr, I get frustrated at the shots I'm missing. I can't switch off the 'photography' thing. But sometimes I take casual shots with my 350D when I'm out somewhere new, for the sake of showing someone the scenery or whatever. But when I get home I hardly ever bother to process those ones (I always shoot raw)... I need to figure out the raw + jpg thing I think.

I have a Sony Ericsson K750i which has a 2MP camera. I bought the phone for the megapixels (and its macro and burst mode) which should answer your question. Great camera phone: pull back the lens cover and its instant on :)

I mainly use it for photographing street art (graffiti). Here's some of my favourite photos taken with it:

Hey Jaqian I got the w800i, which I think has the same camera - it has the burst and macro modes anyway.. I haven't had a chance to try it out yet, still trying to figure out all the buttons, but those shots look great! Nice and clear :)

Cheers Sinead. The w800i is the same phone just different firmware (i.e. walkman), which can be changed (flashed). Also you haven't got the slider but thats the only difference. SE make great phones :)

Btw nice base/cello. Do you play?

Nah. I wish! They were shots for a band (Spellbound).

350D and a 50mm f1.8 perfectly formed. Not the smallest but if you have a big pocket stick it in and bring it with you.

it's all snaps really... When I end up cursing myself that I didn't bring the camera I normally end up reverting to the W800i if the situation allows. Was going to get a compact some time ago but didnt bother. Probably going to bin the w800i (because mine has gone to crap) in the coming months in favor of a K800i. Hopefully the shutter cover mechanism on the K is miles better than whats on the W.

I have my Ixus 500 for those days where a P&S is needed, and my SLR for the rest of the time.
Having used a k750i, it's excellent from a phone camera point of view, but phone cameras won't replace point and shoots. For example a K800i has a 3.2 MP sensor, and one might think that its equivalent to a 3.2 MP point and shoot, but that's not the case. You have a smaller sensor for a start, and then there's the lens to think about. Really the lens is the most important part.

Just looked (woke up..) and its the W810i I got.

Rymus what happened to yours? Or do I want to know? I thought they were supposed to be pretty hardy

I'll only be using mine for web based stuff - I'd imagine prints from it would be appalling. I just uploaded some photos to the desktop and the resolution's not bad at all at fullsize and fine. I know it won't ever match up to a proper P&S, but the fact that I'll always have it with me (mobile = extension of hand) is a major plus for me - I never bring the P&S out.

I dont really know what happened to it. For ages now the camera has been turning on itself with the cover closed, which of course leads to reduced battery time. I find that every time I put it into/take it out of my pocket, put it into a shelf in the car, put it on a desk or pick it up and try to navigate the menu the camera turns on. Aswell as being horrifically annoying, it's also killing the battery. Some days I get about 10 hours out of the battery before it starts complaining. Damn shonky lens cover thing...
