Just in case you didn't realise it.

    Information here: http://www.oxygen.ie/page/726

And even though it says March the 5th in some places and March the 9th in others, see below...
    Hi Donal,

    It's the 9th of March.

    Best,

On the night of it I think... yeah, Tuesday March 27th in Dublin venue, Tripod.

There are several still to come it seems. The intro to that page says how the rest should be up in the next few days.

They're having the awards a lot earlier this year. It was around the 26th April last year I think. Bit strange as most colleges are on holiday.

Wow, that's brilliant! The competition for the Smedias is fierce so congratulations to everyone who was nominated so far (and here's to loads more over the next few days ;) )

Special shout out to David Traynor for getting nominated for his TFM current affairs show after working his ass off on it for - what is it, 2? 3? years now? Also to Gearóid for getting TNT nominated for magazine of the year - think that's the first time that that's happened iirc and well-deserved :)

Thanks Chris. In fairness, thanks should be given to Garreth and Brendan for making me put the entry in. I didn't think it was worthy enough.

It's mad that I've entered this and didn't even know that some of the nominees were up.

TN and TNT were always likely to be shortlisted, but I'm really happy that Martin McKenna has a chance in the News Photography section. He worked hard this year and took some great photos.

By the way, I hope everyone's voted for TN in the People's choice award on www.oxygen.ie ?

Good luck with getting nominated Dave, hope you get it:)

Martin McKenna's photos were excellent this year - he must have a really strong chance of winning that category.

And I'll go vote for TN now... have to try and beat those culchie colleges that mobilise the whole student body for this category!

    Too right.

And as for being nominated, thanks, but it's a long shot. TN alone had 44 entries across all categories; imagine the numbers nationwide.

    From the oxygen.ie website...
Below is the initial shortlist for the 3 Smedias 2007. Please note that there's more categories on the way, and that the categories below will be further shortlisted. This is a shortlist, not nominations. Nominations will be published on the site early next week.

I wonder if they are not releasing the others until they whittle down the ones which are displayed already?

Pity Icarus or Miscellany didn't make the shortlist, but Trinity has to be in with a really good shot with the Magazine category. Campus, the DCU magazine is all right but not great and Galway have never been strong with either newspapers or magazines. Has anyone seen the UCD SU Survival Guide?

The only award they took home last year was Layout & Design; the impression I got at the awards last year was that they were always close to winning other awards but just never quite good enough. Plus last year there was a lot of buzz about the paper and some really imaginative front pages; I've heard nothing about them this year.

It's crazy that TN didn't get nominated for layout and design - major    Great to see TNT did though.

Slightly baffling how the awards are on Tuesday and how some of the categories haven't even been placed on the website (shortlisted and/or nominated). I count 4 which haven't been put online.

I've wondered about the same thing, especially for people who are coming up from the country (UCC, NUIG, UL...) it's a big enough trip, and they should be given a bit of notice for it. It's still pretty shoddy for the Dublin colleges too though.

I was talking to Colman who runs ****** at the end of last year's awards and he was really talking up the Tribune (I think he was in the Tribune himself in college but could be wrong).

Last year as far as I can remember I was the only person shortlisted for both newspaper and layout and design of the year so the Observer may not have been, not 100% on that though.

But that means nothing; as we found out last year when the single most worthy writer that I saw during my 4 years at college papers wasn't even nominated, Colman isn't involved in either shortlisting or deciding the winners. He could think the Tribune is the greatest paper in the world and it wouldn't make a difference.

And yes, the UCD Observer was also nominated for newspaper and layout/design last year.

Big congratulations to Myth, who has been shortlisted for the Website of the Year category! TN has been nominated for it too, plus the Astronomy & Space Soc. TFM didn't make the shortlist for either of the categories it was nominated for unfortunately :(

    Well done Dónal!

I'm going to nominate my baby SER for everything ever next year. Even best radio.

Well, the soundtrack in the Pubs office is usually pretty good.

Thanks. Though it is strange how TN's website has made two appearances on the nomination page :)

Well done to all the Trinity winners!

Peter Henry won Newspaper of the Year for Trinity News, David Molloy got Journalist of the Year, Jago Tennant won Travel Writer of the Year, and Brian Henry won website of the year for the TN website!

    Well, the results are in:

TN won Newspaper of the Year (major w00tage!), Journalist of the Year (David Molloy, aka Dave3x), Website of the Year (designed by Brian Henry) and Travel Writer of the Year (Jago Tennant).

Hard luck to those who lost out (especially Dónal for mygrant.ie and Gearóid for TNT) but massive congratulations to those who won. Excellent achievement, well-desreved :)

Edit: Damn you Andrew, getting there before me!

    Congrats to the winners :)

Was wondering why I didn't see you at the ceremony :)

Amusing incident #1: A member of the Trinity posse collecting the award for Sports Photographer of the Year. Despite not having won it....

Amusing incident #2: Peter's acceptance speech for Newspaper of the Year included the line: "Look, basically we won this because we worked harder than everyone else, so we deserve it".

Good for him. To hell with false modesty!

Topic: Congratulations to all who won; I've genuinely enjoyed TN this year, Agent and all.
